First and foremost, “The Great Salmon Run (鲑鱼洄游)” looks amazing. It is beautifully filmed, done in completely natural and sometimes friendly way and never looking still. The editing is always brief and smooth and the scenery is pure magic. A wide diversity of the different landscapes are included rather than just one habitat. The music fits very well, beautiful and appropriate.
Again, like so many Attenborough’s nature/wildlife documentaries, “The Great Salmon Run” fascinates, teaches, moves, entertains and attracts. In terms of the facts there is a very good mix of the known ones and the unknown. Some facts are familiar to us while some are going into details about the different animals, their challenges and some truly amazing wildlife events in their struggles for survival and interaction with other animals whether prey (猎物) or predator (捕食者).
Certainly the salmon are a thing of beauty but the brown bears similarly have impressive moments as well. It may not be novel territory for Attenborough, but animals are what one can’t get enough of. Besides, there is so much freshness to the material that it won’t make one feel going round in circles but absorbed.
Narration (解说) by Attenborough helps significantly. He clearly knows his stuff and knows what to say and how to say it. He delivers it with his usual richness, soft-spoken enthusiasm and sincerity, never talking down to the viewer and keeping them wanting to know more. Viewers care for what goes on in front of and behind the camera.
At no point does “The Great Salmon Run” ever feel like just a series of scenes. Instead, it feels like its own story and journey, with real, complex emotions and conflicts and animal characters, all of which are developed in a way a human character would in a film.
Overall, amazing.
1.The writer thinks in narration, Attenborough ________.
A.changes his usual style
B.keeps the viewers interested
C.ignores what the viewers want to know
D.thinks what to say is more important than how to say it

A.It not only entertains.
B.It is set in only one main habitat.
C.It is Attenborough’s finest work.
D.It focuses on the struggle between the salmon and man.
3.What is the writer’s attitude towards The Great Salmon Run?

高三英语阅读选择简单题查看答案及解析
The damming of river systems in the northwestern United States has had damaging effects on salmon(鲑鱼). In the spring young salmon, called smolts, drift into rivers from smaller streams. They swim with the current downstream heading for the Pacific Ocean. Before the large-scale constructions of dams(水坝), the young salmon used the strong flow from melting snows to get to the sea in between six and twenty days. It is necessary to do this because during these days the smolts’ bodies undergo the physiological changes for adaptation to salt water.
Unfortunately, the current has become very slow due to the construction of numerous dams. Companies operating the dams also intentionally slow the current. They store the water from the melting snow until the winter, when more electric power is needed. The net result is that many of the young fish do not survive the now sixty-day trip to the sea. Consequently, there are fewer adult salmon to migrate(回游) back up the rivers for breeding. When the time comes for the salmon to return, they again face the problem of dams. As fewer adult salmon are able to get back to their cool upstream water, they fail to produce a sufficiently new generation of salmon. This cycle could eventually lead to the extinction of the fish.
Attempts are being made to transport the young salmon down river by boats. However, many scientists think that this artificial method of getting the fish to the sea kills more than it saves. Another suggestion, recently proposed by environmentalists, is to increase the rate of water flow. This would be a partial(部分的) solution to the declining salmon numbers. One method of doing this would call for releasing water from upstream dam. This would speed up the downstream movement of the smolts.
Another method would be to reduce the water level in the dams for a period in the spring when the smolts are migrating downstream. This would also increase the flow rate temporarily without requiring large amounts of water and, thus, enable the young salmon to move downstream faster. Unfortunately, both of these proposals have met with criticism from the power companies, which strongly suggests the uncertain fate of the salmon in the region.
76. What’s the main topic of the passage?
A. The failure of adult salmon to reproduce.
B. The importance of smolts returning upstream.
C. The need for smolts to reach salt water quickly.
D. The harm caused to salmon by river damming.
77. The passage discusses all of the following methods of dealing with salmon issue EXCEPT _____.
A. carrying the fish in boats
B. allowing water to be released from upstream dams
C. dropping water levels in dams
D. breeding salmon
78. In paragraph 3, what does the author mean by the statement that many scientists think that this artificial method of getting the fish to the sea kills more than it saves?
A. Saving fish is artificial.
B. More fish die when transported than would die otherwise
C. Artificial methods of transportation give salmon the chance to get adapted to salt water.
D. The sea kills more fish than are saved by transportation.
79. Which of the following statements would the author most probably agree with?
A. The salmon problem is likely to continue.
B. A solution to the salmon problem will be found in the near future.
C. Salmon will be extinct very quickly.
D. The government should step in and provide a way out.

Brown bears have stopped eating salmon(鲑鱼)in favor of elderberries after being forced to make a choice due to climate change. Warming temperatures mean that the berries are ripening earlier than usual, at exactly the same time as the freshwater streams on Alaska’s Kodiak Island are over flowing with salmon.
The island’s brown bears typically feed first on salmon in early summer, followed by elderberries later in the season, in late August and September.
“What you have is a scrambling of the schedule,” said William Deacy, a biologist at Oregon State University that studied the phenomenon.
“It’s essentially like if breakfast and lunch were served at the same time and then there is nothing to eat until dinner. You have to choose between breakfast and lunch because you can only eat so much at a time.”
The study found that during the unusually warm summer of 2014, the bears, which would traditionally kill up to 75 percent of the salmon, were nowhere to be seen near the streams. Instead, they were in the hills busy munching on berries, which contain less protein and therefore take less energy to break down, causing them to gain weight more quickly.
Biologists warned that changes caused by a warming planet were behind the bears’ unusual behavior and could affect the entire ecosystem.
The researchers found that the forests around the streams suffered because the bears’ fish carcasses(残骸)were no longer there to enrich the soil.
“Bears switched from eating salmon to elderberries, disturbing an ecological link that typically fertilizes the ecosystems and generates high death rates for salmon,” the study said. On average, red elderberries are said to be ripening two and a half days earlier every decade. If the pattern continues, they will regularly overlap(重叠)with the salmon by 2070.
1.Brown bears have begun to favor ________ because of the climate change.
A.salmon
B.elderberries
C.warm temperatures
D.fresh water
2.What does William Deacy mean by saying the underlined sentence?
A.Brown bears eat their breakfast and lunch at the same time.
B.We’re facing a hard problem with choosing the meals.
C.Climate change is disturbing the bears’ eating habits.
D.People’s biological clocks are changing regularly.
3.Which of the following words can best describe the phenomenon?
A.Natural. B.Unusual.
C.Amazing. D.Typical.
4.The finding of the study shows us that ________.
A.brown bears may become bigger and bigger
B.there will be a higher death rate for the salmon
C.red elderberries will probably be ripening in summer
D.the changes of bears’ behavior could affect the entire ecosystem

Over the course of his long and amazing career, W. Somerset Maugham( 1874-1965) achieved great success as a novelist and a playwright. Not happy with just being a writer, Maugham was also a spy. But this was less of a success than his writing.
Dec 15, 2016 marked 51 years since his death, and Maugham’s works have never been out of print. Of Human Bondage(1915) was his masterpiece. The title comes from the great 17th century Dutch philosopher Baruch Spinoza. The philosopher thought that human beings were slaves to what they wanted and needed. That’s exactly what Philip Carey, the hero of the novel, experiences.
Carey is a slave to his emotional needs. He doesn’t get much love when he is a child, so he looks for love later. After losing both his parents early in his life, Carey is raised by a paternal uncle who is emotionally cold. In his adult life, he goes from woman to woman and job to job, as he finds it a struggle to find either personal happiness or the right job for his talents. Not wanting to become a lawyer, he is eventually trained and qualified as a physician.
But true love is much harder to find. He finds that he attracts women he has no feelings for and falls in love with those who have no interest in him or, worse, try to take advantage of him. He is torn apart by the pain of his helpless love of a waitress and not being able to return the love of a young artist.
Although Maugham tried to hide it, the book is about his own life. Carey’s loveless childhood and romantic troubles were Maugham’s own. However, he managed to turn these painful details into a story that would interest readers who share his characters’ feeling.
Maugham does not just write about his life in the novel. He writes about deeply personal things in a way that speaks to everyone about their wants and needs.

There are some great differences between the traditional family and the modern family.
The first important difference is in the man’s role. The traditional husband was the head of the household because he was the only one who worked outside the home.If the wife worked for money, then the husband was not considered to be a good provider,In many families today, both husband and wife work for money. Therefore, they share the role of head of household. In addition, the traditional husband usually made big decisions about spending money. However, the modern husband shares these decisions with his working wife. Also, the traditional husband did not help his wife with housework or meal preparation. Dinner was ready when he came home,In contrast, the modern husband helps his working wife at home.He may do some of the household chores, and it is not unusual for him to cook.
The second difference is in the woman’s role. In the traditional family, the woman may have worked for miney during her first years of marriage. However, when she gave birth, she would usually give up her job. Her primary role would be to take care of her family and home.In contrast,in many families today, the modern woman works outside the home even after she has children .She’s doing two jobs instead of one,so she is busier than the traditional mother was.The traditional wife learned to live within her husband’s income. But the modern wife does not have to because the family has two incomes.
The final difference is in the role of the children .In the traditional family, the children were taken care of by the mother because she didn’t work outside. However, today pre-school children may go to a child-care center or to a baby-sitter regularly because the mother works. The school-age children of a traditional family were more dependent.Their mother was there to help them get ready for school and to make their breakfast. In conrtast, modern children are more independent. They have to get up early and get ready for school themselves, and they may even have to make their own breakfast.
