A beer bottle thrown from the stands landed near Usain Bolt in the moments before the 100-meter final Sunday night in London.
As Bolt and seven other competitors ducked into their starting crouches, a bottle sailed from the first row of the stands at Olympic Stadium.
It harmlessly bounced in the lane belonging to Yohan Blake and didn’t appear to cause a distraction(分心) to the runners, who started a moment later. The thrower’s lack of distance was a blessing. Had he gathered tips from the competitors of the hammer throw(链球) competition, which was taking place in the infield at the same time as the 100 final, the bottle could have hit one of the competitors. It ended up landing a few feet from Blake (lane5).
Edith Bosch, a female Dutch judoka who won a bronze medal earlier during the Olympics, claimed that the man who threw the bottle was sitting near her and that she “beat” him. Whether that’s true or the hyperbole (夸张的语句) of an aggravated athlete was unclear in the minutes after the incident. Pictures show a group of Dutch athletes sitting behind the starting area.
Police took the man into custody(监护). He will appear in court on Monday morning.
Neither Bolt nor Blake said they knew of the incident until they were informed by reporters. “I don’t know who would have done that,” Bolt said.
Gatlin was aware of it but implied it was only a slight distraction. “I didn’t know what it was,” he said, according to the BBC, “but when you’re in those blocks, the whole stadium is so quiet that you can hear a pin drop.”
1.How many exact athletes are mentioned in the text?
A. Two B. Four C. Seven D. Eleven
2.What is the text mainly about?
A. Usain Bolt along with seven other competitors
B. A female Dutch judoka sitting behind the starting area.
C. The lane belonging to Yohan Blake before 100 final.
D. A beer bottle thrown at Usain Bolt before 100 final.
3.What’s the writer’s attitude towards the athletes for the 100-meter final?
A. Critical B. Doubtful
C. Disapproving D. Positive

Birds in cities are damaging their health by trying to sing above the noise of urban life.
New research shows that male birds are trying to compete against traffic and city sounds. They are now singing louder and at higher frequencies, which could harm their vocal cords. Some birds are choosing to sing at night instead of dudng the day. This makes them more open to attack and also creates stress and exhanstion.
“The difference between urban and rural birdsong is becoming so big that the two groups could now be unable to communicate. This could lead to inbreeding and a weak gene pool.”said Dr Sue Anne Zollinger of the University of St Andrews.
According to Zollingar,a bird group with a small geae pool might adapt less quickly to new diseases and could be wiped out.
A study of the dawn chorus found that birds in Berlin sang up to 14 decibels(分贝)louder than those in the forest. The birds sang loudest on weekday momings.
“By trying to sing over the sound of the city, birds are rising vocal injury,”said Zollinger.“All this puts the sarne strain on a bird’s vocal cords as when ahuman need to shout to be heard—except the birds are doing it all day, every day,”she said.
“Singing under such pressure means birds have less control over the sound they produce. Their songs may lose quality and become more rough—sounding.”said Zollinger. This could make them appear less attractive to female birds.
Mark Constantine, author of The Sound Approach to Birding, said:“Birdsong is important for our quality of life and has been proved to reduce our blood pressure. When we live in the centre of large, urban areas,we get stressed and it's extremely good to have birdsong around us.The impact on humans of birdsong is massive. It harms us,as well as the birds,if their songs become louder and simpler
53.Some birds in cities now choose to sing at night time because_______.

D.they have to frighten their enemy away

C live with each other
D.compete against each other
55.It requires greatest efforts for birds in cities to sing o_______.
A.Monday nights B.Wednesday afternoons
C.Saturday Evenings D.Friday momings

B the dying out of a species
C.the serious damage to the bird’s vocal cords
D.the decrease ofthe birth rate ofa bird group

MEXICO CITY: A jetliner from the beach resort of Cancun was briefly hijacked as it landed in Mexico City on Wednesday. The hijackers released all passengers shortly before federal police stormed the plane, and the crew emerged unharmed moments later.
Police, who did not fire a single shot, led as many as eight handcuffed men away from the airplane, which was isolated at the end of a runway in an area designed for emergencies. The hijackers’ motive was unclear, though Mexican news media initially identified them as Bolivians demanding to speak with Mexican President Felipe Calderon.
US, French and Mexican citizens were among the 112 passengers and crew on Aeromexico Flight 576, according to a US official who had been briefed on the situation. The official was not authorized to discuss the case and spoke on condition of anonymity.
Mexico’s transportation and communications secretary, Juan Molinar, said there was no bomb on the airplane, although some passengers said one of the hijackers held a package that resembled an explosive device, and a bomb squad (拆弹小组) was later seen near the airplane.
He did not immediately identify the hijackers or speculate on their motive.
“Various people who participated in the act have been detained and we are investigating,”Molinar said.
The attorney general’s office said it was opening an investigation into terrorism and kidnapping but did not specify how many people could be charged.
Mexican news media initially reported the hijackers were Bolivian, but Bolivia’s ambassador to Mexico, Jorge Mancilla, said Mexican authorities had no evidence that was the case. Mancilla said sources told him they could be Colombian or Venezuelan. Several passengers told reporters they did not notice a non-Mexican accent.
Passenger Rocio Garcia told the Televisa network that the pilot made an announcement after landing in Mexico City that the airplane was being hijacked. Passengers said the hijackers never communicated with them directly.
“These were scary moments,”she said.
She said she saw one of the hijackers whom she described as a well-dressed, older man.
“He looked fine, like a normal passenger,”she said.
Passenger Daniel Hernandez said he saw a hijacker carrying a Bible.

A biologist once criticized for stealing eggs from the nests of the rarest bird in the world has been awarded the “Nobel Prize” of conservation after his methods saved nine species from extinction.
Professor Carl Jones won the 2016 Indianapolis Prize --- the highest accolade in the field of animal conservation --- for his 40 years of work in Mauritius, where he saved an endangered kestrel from becoming the next Great Auk.
When the 61-year-old first travelled to the east African island in the 1970s, he was told to close down a project to save the Mauritius kestrel. At the time there were just four left in the wild, making it the rarest bird on Earth. However, he stayed, using the techniques of captive breeding (人工繁殖), which involved snatching eggs from the birds’ nests and hatching(孵化)them under incubators, prompting the mothers to lay another set of eggs in the wild.
A decade later, the number of Mauritius kestrels had soared to over 300 and today there are around 400 in the wild. The biologist has also been necessary in efforts to bring other rare species back from the edge of extinction, including the pink pigeon, echo parakeet and Rodrigues warbler.
Prof Jones was awarded the $250,000 (£172,000) prize at a ceremony in London.
“As a young man in my 20s, I certainly didn’t enjoy the stress and the tension of the criticism I received,” reflecting on the start of his career, he said the Maurutius kestrel project had been seen as a “dead loss” at the time. In the 1970s there was fierce opposition to the captive breeding techniques, with critics arguing that they were too risky and took the emphasis off breeding in the wild.
Prof Jones has devoted his whole life to his work, only becoming a father for the first time eight years ago, at 53. He said receiving the prize was particularly important to him, because it proved that his work to save birds was right.
