Remember how great exercise was when you were a little kid? Back then, racing around the playground or skipping rope for hours, you weren’t thinking fitness, you were thinking entertainment. But in this age of high-tech home equipment and underused gym memberships, the simple joy of jumping rope has been forgotten. Rediscovering it will give you a total-body exercise you can find.
Although considered an excellent form of exercise, jumping rope has never gained widespread acceptance because of two fundamental reasons. First, most people recognize jumping rope as an excellent form of cardiovascular (心血管的) exercise, but they also believe that it is simply too difficult. In other words, they don’t think they’ll be able to continue jumping for the near 20 minutes that it takes to achieve a beneficial physical outcome. Second, many view it as somewhat boring and overly repetitive—not as something fun or enjoyable.
As a matter of fact, jumping rope can be great fun if you find a proper way to practice it. Instead of doing the usual two-foot bounce over and over again, people good at rope-jumping often change their pattern every 10 or 20 jumps. A single bounce, a double–bounce, a skip, a knee-up, side swings, as well as a variety of other easy-to-learn free-style rope-jumping.
Now researchers are learning that jumping rope also prepares the brain for learning. It is an exercise allowing both brain hemispheres to perform in parallel to each other. In short , jumping rope can be a life-long activity requiring little equipment, time and space, yet leading to a much healthier life.
1. From the first paragraph we learn that ________.
A.jumping rope has faded from people’s memories
B.people now have more advanced equipment
C.racing around the playground was preferred
D.people now like to have exercise in a gym
2. Rope jumping has not spread widely because________.
A.it benefits the cardiovascular system B.it is neither easy nor enjoyable
C.it is considered boring and repetitive D.it requires little equipment, time and space
3. The first sentence in the 3rd paragraph implies ________.
A.there is only one proper way to follow B.the usual way should not be used
C.the easiest way is always the best D.there are many ways to follow
4.What is the author’s attitude towards rope jumping?
A.He is arguing against it. B.He is in favor of it.
C.He is sitting on the fence of it. D.He is not clear about it.

I’d like to share a little story with you about something that happened when I was four. I remember it clearly. Our loving family dog was nearing the end of his life. My father picked him up and put him in a little bed we had made for him. Our dog, my companion, whom we had cared for, bit my father when he attempted to help him. How could he? Why? I couldn’t understand it. I didn’t like him anymore.
I hadn’t thought about that story for a long time but something that happened last week brought it back to me. I went to speak with a friend. When I knocked on the door, I met in an instant an angry look and a few harsh(尖刻的)words. When the door was slammed(砰地关上)in my face, I stood there shocked, and in a rush, I was reminded of my dog bit my father 20 years ago or so. What brought that story back was that same feeling of betrayal.
Both stories taught me something the next day. You see, when I got up in the morning and was told my dog had died, it became clear to me that he must have been in great pain. For him to have bitten a family member, he could not have been himself. Much the same for the other story when I learned that my friend’s wife had just left him.
We are all beings of our environments, our opinions and feelings. And all of those things can cause you to say and do things that can’t be understood by those who are not in the same situation with you.
If you meet someone either behaving out of character or acting in a way that doesn’t seem to fit the situation, put out your hand and be patient when you think it is least possible for him to do so. You may turn around a story that has a sad ending simply by your actions.
1.The incident that happened when the author was four______.
A. hurt the author’s feeling deeply
B. has puzzled the author ever since
C. left a deep impression on the author
D. made the author dislike dogs
2.What made the author think about the story of about 20 years ago?
A. His friend’s attitude.

A. he was bad-tempered
B. he was suffering the pain of losing his wife
C. he was bothered by an unexpected visit
D. they once quarreled and he couldn’t forgive the author
4.What conclusion did the author get from the two stories?
A. Misunderstanding should be removed in time.
B. Sometimes one will be hurt without any reason.
C. Many people think more of themselves and less of others.
D. Many factors will affect one’s behavior.
5.What’s the author’s advice to us?

高三英语阅读理解中等难度题查看答案及解析
Now, I want to start with a question: When was the last time you were called childish? For kids like me, being called childish can be a frequent occurrence. Every time we make irrational(不理智的) demands, exhibit irresponsible behavior, or display any other signs of being normal American citizens, we are called childish. ___________A____________. After all, take a look at these events: imperialism(帝国主义)and colonization(殖民主义), world wars, George W. Bush. Ask yourself: Who's responsible? Adults.
Now, what have kids done? ___________B____________. Well, Anne Frank touched millions with her powerful account of the Holocaust (大屠杀), Ruby Bridges helped end segregation(隔离) in the United States, and, most recently, Charlie Simpson helped to raise 120,000 pounds for Haiti on his little bike. So, as you can see evidenced by such examples, age has absolutely nothing to do with it. We are called childish so often by adults that we should abolish this age-discrimination when it comes to criticizing behavior associated with irresponsibility and irrational thinking.
Then again, who's to say that certain types of irrational thinking aren't exactly what the world needs? Maybe you've had grand plans before, but stopped yourself, thinking: That's impossible or that costs too much or that won't benefit me. For better or worse, we kids aren't hampered as much when it comes to thinking about reasons why not to do things. ___________C____________. Kids can be full of inspiring aspirations and hopeful thinking, like my wish that no one went hungry or that everything were free kind of utopia(乌托邦). How many of you still dream like that and believe in the possibilities? Sometimes a knowledge of history and the past failures of utopian ideals can be a burden. On the other hand, we kids still dream about perfection. ___________D____________. And that's a good thing because in order to make anything a reality, you have to dream about it first.
Now, our inborn wisdom doesn't have to be insiders' knowledge. Kids already do a lot of learning from adults, and we have a lot to share. I think that adults should start learning from kids. Now, I do most of my speaking in front of an education crowd, teachers and students, and I like this analogy. It shouldn't just be a teacher at the head of the classroom telling students to do this, do that. The students should teach their teachers. Learning between grown ups and kids should be reciprocal. The reality, unfortunately, is a little different, and it has a lot to do with trust, or a lack of it. Now, if you don't trust someone, you place restrictions on them, right. If I doubt my older sister's ability to pay back the 10 percent interest I established on her last loan, I'm going to withhold her ability to get more money from me until she pays it back.
True story, by the way. Now, adults seem to have a prevalently restrictive attitude towards kids from every "don't do that," "don't do this" in the school handbook, to restrictions on school internet use. Kids have no, or very little, say in making the rules, when really the attitude should be reciprocal(相互的), meaning that the adult population should learn and take into account the wishes of the younger population.
Adults, you need to listen and learn from kids. The world needs opportunities for new leaders and new ideas. Kids need opportunities to lead and succeed. Are you ready to make the match?
1.Where should the sentence “This really bothers me.” be put in the passage?
A. In blank A. B. In blank B.
C. In blank C. D. In blank D.
2.What does the speaker think is the root cause why adults call kids childish?
A. That kids like being called that way.
B. That adults are more irresponsible than kids.
C. That kids often make irrational demands.
D. That adults are driven by age-discrimination against kids.
3. Which of the following least explains kids’ advantage over adults based on the speaker?
A. Younger age. B. Irrational thinking.
C. Knowledge of history. D. Excess restrictions.
4.What is the best title of this passage?
A. Don’t Be Childish again, Adults!
B. Time to Listen and Learn from Us!
C. Don’t Do That, Don’t Do This!
D. We Are Not Young Any More!

"Hey, Dad," one of my kids asked the other day, "what was your favourite fast food when you were growing up?"
"We didn't have fast food when I was growing up," I informed him."All the food was slow." "Where did you eat?" "It was a place called 'at home'." I explained."Grandma cooked every day and when Grandpa got home from work, we sat down together at the dining table, and if I didn't like what she put on my plate I was allowed to sit there until I liked it."
Some parents never owned their own houses, set foot on a golf course, travelled out of the country or had a credit card.
My parents have never driven me to soccer practice. This was mostly because we never had heard of soccer.I had a bicycle that weighed probably 50 pounds, and only had one speed. We didn't have a television in our house until I was 11.I was 13 when I tasted my first pizza; it was called "pizza pie".When I bit into it, I burned the roof of my mouth and the cheese slid off, swung down, plastered(粘贴)itself against my chin and burned that, too. It's still the best pizza I ever had.
I delivered newspapers, six days a week .The paper cost 7 cents, of which I got to keep 2 cents.I had to get up at 4:00 a.m.every morning. On Saturday, I had to collect the 42 cents from my customers. My favourite customers were the ones who gave me 50 cents and told me to keep the change.
If you grew up in a generation before there was fast food, you may want to share some of these memories with your children or grandchildren.
