Golden lion tamarins (GLT) are among the most endangered animals on earth. They have fur which ranges in color from reddish orange to golden brown. They are the smallest monkeys in the world，and they weigh only half a kilogram. They move quickly through the forest. Each group of these delightful creatures needs a living space of about two square kilometres of thick forest. They are named after lions because of the ring of fur around their faces. Their only natural habitat(栖息地)is the Atlantic forest in Brazil.

Lions are most successful at hunting animals during the darker period of the moon’s cycle. But how those prey (猎物) respond to changing threats as the night’s light changes throughout a month has been a mystery. Scientists spied on four of the lions' favorite prey species for several years. They fixed 225 cameras across an area. When animals came by, the cameras responded by taking their pictures.

The prey — wildebeests (角马), zebras, gazelles (瞪羚) and buffalo — are all plant eaters. To meet their food needs, such species must searching for food frequently, even at night. The cameras showed that these species respond to changing risks across the lunar cycle in different ways.

Common wildebeests, which make up a third of the lion’s diet, were the most sensitive to the lunar cycle. These animals appeared to set their plans for the entire night based on the moon’s change. During the darkest period of the month, they’d park themselves in a safe area. But as the nights got brighter, wildebeests were more willing to venture into places where run-ins with lions were likely.

Weighing as much as 900 kilograms, the African buffalo are a lion’s most tough prey. They also were least likely to change where and when they searched for food throughout the lunar cycle. But as nights got darker, the buffalo were more likely to form herds (兽群).

Plain zebras and gazelles also changed their evening routines with the lunar cycle. But unlike the other prey these animals reacted more directly to changing light levels across an evening. Gazelles were more active after the moon had come up. Zebras were sometimes up and about and doing things before the moon had risen.

The US plans to extend its endangered species protection to lions in Africa．US Fish and　 Wildlife Service(FWS)will classify lions in southern and eastern Africa as threatened．The move will place tighter restrictions on the import of lion“trophies”，such as paws or heads．

A report by the Consumer Electronics Association says electronics are among the most popular gifts being bought this holiday season.

Jim Barry is a spokesman for the Consumer Electronics Association. He says the CEA study found that electronics represent three of the top five things on its "holiday gift wish list" this year.

JIM BARRY: "Notebook computers are at the top, followed by iPads and then e-readers. IPad is a touch-screen tablet computer and that's really the big player in that category."

Since the iPad's release earlier this year, several other companies have come out with their own tablet computers just in time for Christmas.

JIM BARRY: "Another hot category right behind that are the e-readers. So you can read on an iPad or a touch-screen tablet, but the e-book readers are less expensive. The Kindle is the market leader there, from Amazon. But you also have the Nook from Barnes and Noble and the e-reader from Sony. And you have more and more of those e-readers coming into the market as well."

The Consumer Electronics Association report found that iPod music players are also in high demand this holiday season.

But not all of the things on the holiday gift wish list involved electronics. Clothes, cars and motorcycles also made the list. So did family togetherness and good health. And the one thing that people wanted most?
