The engineer Camilla Olivetti was 40 years old when he started the company in 1908. At his factory in Ivrea, he designed and produced the first Italian typewriter. Today the company’s head office is still in Ivrea, near Turin, but the company is much larger than it was in those days and there are offices all around the world,
By 1930 there was a staff of 700 and the company turned out 13.000 machines a year. Some went to customers in Italy, but Olivetti exported more typewriters to other countries.
Camillo’s son, Adriano, started working for the company in 1924 and later he became the boss. He introduced a standard speed for the production line and he employed technology and design specialist. The company developed new and better typewriters and then calculators(计算器). In 1959 it produced the ELEA computer system. This was the first mainframe(主机) computer designed and made in Italy.
After Adriano died in 1960, the company had a period of financial problem. Other companies, especially the Japanese, made faster progress in electronic technology than the Italian company.
In 1978, Carlo de Benedetti became the new boss. Olivetti increased its marketing and service networks and made agreements with other companies to design and produce more advanced office equipment. Soon it became one of the world’s leading companies in information technology and communications. There are now five independent companies in the Olivetti group—one for personal computers, one for other office equipment, one for systems and service, and two for telecommunications.

Campbell Remess taught himself how to sew when he was only 9 years old. It all started three years ago, when Campbell asked his parents if they could buy Christmas presents for kids in hospital. They were touched by his kindness, but told him that buying so many toys would be too costly. He is one of nine children, and buying presents for all of them was already a pretty expensive affair for the parents.
Campbell didn’t let a simple “no” discourage him from bringing a bit of joy to kids going through tough times, so he decided to make the presents himself. It took the 9-year-old boy five hours to create his first stuffed (填充的) toy. However after three years of practice, he is now able to put one together in just an hour.
“I was blown away by the first bear,” his mother said. “Overly impressed but not surprised at his determination to teach himself.” The successful experiment only inspired Campbell Remess to become better at sewing, and challenged himself to create one stuffed toy per day and donate them to sick children struggling in the hospital. Project 365 by Campbell was born. Over the last three years, Campbell Remess has created over 800 stuffed toys for sick children.
Campbell sends his toys to children all over the world, and still visits the Royal Hobart Hospital in his home city of Hobart, Tasmania, to personally gift toy animals to sick kids there and loves to see the reaction on their faces. “They smile and some hug me. It all started when Campbell Remess was nine years old and asked his parents if he could buy Christmas gifts for sick children, for he wanted to do something to brighten their spirits. His parents had to turn down his request, for Campbell is one of nine children and ... well, money, you know? However, Campbell took up the challenge and started creating his own bears. Meanwhile, he named the project “Project 365" , which means making a bear a day in a year.
Every week he delivers some bears to sick children not only at the Royal Hobart Hospital near his home but all over the world. He even creates personalized teddy bears, the Winning Bear, for cancer patients to hold onto during treatments and at those down times. Campbell has even sent bears to victims of terrorist attacks in Brussels and Paris. These bears all become a treasured companion and are something to hug during difficult times. But it doesn't end there ...
Not only does Campbell make bears, but he has a variety of fundraising events to help further causes he supports. At one such gala last year, Campbell made a bear on-stage and auctioned (拍卖)it off for $ 5 ,000. The night raised more than 26,000 for the Love Your Sister charity. He hopes to expand the amount and locations of fundraising events he hosts.
Campbell's message of love and kindness has spread around the world, and he has spoken to schools about how each effort counts. Project 365's Facebook page has amassed over 26,271 followers and is a platform for people worldwide to spread positivity.

When I was 5 years old, I started losing weight. My parents noticed I was pale and always thirsty. They had me tested to see if my blood sugar was high because they thought that might be causing my symptoms.
My blood sugar was five times higher than normal. That can be deadly. My parents rushed me to the hospital. That's when my whole life changed.
The doctors said I had Type 1 Diabetes (糖尿病).That means my body can't make insulin (胰岛素).There's no cure.
My parents had to give me insulin shots every day and I had to get over my fear of needles quickly. Sometimes I had 10 band-aids on my fingers at once.
Now that I'm older, I check my own blood sugar and give myself shots. About four years ago, my mom started traveling to rural Guatemala. She goes twice a year to help people in need.
I have been a Girl Scout since kindergarten. For a Girl Scout project, I put together a team to go to Guatemala to test people there for diabetes. We went for four days last July. We tested 378 children and 100 adults. We found three adults with a different kind of diabetes, called type 2. We also found one little girl with dangerously low blood sugar. She cried when we told her. She had been feeling dizzy and didn't know why. It was like replaying what happened to me when I was little. I talked through a translator, but everyone understood hugs. I gave more hugs than I've ever given.
Having type 1 diabetes is hard. But I have accepted it readily. It has helped me meet amazing people. It has made me responsible and independent. It has also shown me the power of taking action. I'm going back to Guatemala this summer to test more kids. I want to help as many kids as I can. But my greatest wish is for a cure. Type 1 diabetes changes your life. If no other child ever has to have it, that would be amazing.
