My youngest son has a severe form of autism (自闭症). Even though he is in his twenties now, he still has the mind of a young child.
He speaks only a few words. He is lost in his own world most of the time. Things I find silly delight him and little changes that wouldn’t bother me at all bother him greatly. He will tear things up and cry for no reason that I can see. He will even hit himself.
It always hurts me to see him suffer this way especially when there is little I can do. This morning was particularly trying for him. He tore up a new shirt I’d bought him and cried on and off for an hour. Finally he calmed down again. However, I was still feeling stressed and exhausted. I sat down before my computer to see if I could get a little work done.
As I was turning it on, though, I heard my son laugh for the first time all day. I turned my head and saw him standing directly under the glass angel hanging from our ceiling fan. The light from our house lamps seemed to shine all around him like a gold ring. His eyes shone too as the little angel swung gently above his head. He laughed again and smiled at me, saying, “Mom, I love you”.
At that moment my heart opened. I could see that the miracle (奇迹) was reminding me that my son was more than his autism. I instead saw the shining soul within. I saw the love and light of his spirit and knew he was here for a purpose. My eyes watered and I feel grateful for this minor miracle and gentle reminder of his love for me.
Miracles are all around us,but we can’t always see them with our eyes. We often have to see them with our hearts. Keep your heart open to them then. And let yourself be the miracle you were meant to be!

When my son was first diagnosed with Autism (自闭症), it was a very hard time for us. However, in some ways it was a relief, because we finally had a name for what was going on in our lives, but it also meant years more of uncertainty, and we didn’t know what the future held.
When I shared the news with my coworkers, I was so surprised and happy to receive so much immediate love and support from them. They were focused on what we needed, as opposed to how it would affect my ability to make it to work.
One co-worker, Jackie, in particular, was amazing to my family and me. She called me into her office a few days later, and gave me a “ worry stone”. It gives you something to focus on when you’re worried, rubbing your thumb around on this stone. It was a lovely gesture.
She then extended a permanent offer to drive us to any appointments or tests we needed. Considering the fact that we lived 90 minutes from where most treatment took place, this was a tremendous offer. She made it very clear to me that this offer included last minute trips or emergencies. Anytime we needed to go anywhere, she was willing to be our transportation. She said that we needed to be able to focus on our son instead of having to divide our attention between the road and him.
We never did need to take her up on her wonderful offer, but knowing it was there and that she was so willing to help made it feel like we were much less alone.
1.What does “a relief” refer to in the first paragraph ?
A. My son’s recovery from the disease.
B. The help from my co-workers.
C. Knowing what my boy’s problem is.
D. The sign of a better future.
2.Why did the co-worker offer to drive for us?
A. She is a more experienced driver.
B. We live far away from the hospital.
C. She lives very close to our house.
D. She wishes to reduce our worries.
3.What does the writer think of the offer by Jackie?
A. It’s a great comfort.
B. It’s a last-minute offer.
C. It’s not necessary.
D. It’s a difficult decision for her.
4.What might be the best title for the text?
A. Years of Uncertainty
B. The Most Generous Woman
C. In Time of Need
D. A Story of Sacrifice

Through Shaun and other doctors at the fictional San Jose St.Bonaventure Hospital, the series explores what it means to be a good person, which impresses the viewers greatly."It brings people hope in dark times and that might be one reason why it became a runaway hit last year,"cast members said.
"It came about somewhat naturally,"Freddie said."It seemed unusual to me to put so much in the four, five months of filming, because we only did 10 episodes, and then sort of stepped away and did nothing...I wanted to live in that world longer.”
Freddie,26,admitted to feeling some anxiety about getting his performance right. He did a great deal of research on autism and continued to work with a full-time consultant."When you're opposite Freddie, Shaun is learning.Shaun is processing."Nicholas, who plays Dr.Melendez,commented."It's not impression. He doesn't slip into the character and play around. He lives it a lot, too."

高三英语完型填空简单题查看答案及解析
Because Skyler and Kreed are speechless teens with autism (自闭症), making friends hasn’t always been easy for them. Now that they have each other, their friendship is stronger than what any word could ever describe.
Aside from having autism, 14-year-old Skyler is currently deaf and is losing his sight. He also has no effective means to communicate. Kreed, 17, uses a device to communicate and has multiple medical conditions. Once Kreed learned Skyler was also speechless, their friendship began.
“We were able to explain to Kreed that Skyler is deaf and also speechless like him,” Kreed’s mother, Erin Polk, said. “He seemed to understand and ever since then has wanted to be with Skyler and calls him his best friend.”
The best friends, who live down the street from each other, hang out just like typical teenagers. They eat pizza and French fries and watch movies together. They also give each other a helping hand.
“Kreed will help Skyler by leading him to places he is afraid to walk into,” Polk said. “We think his lack of good sight makes it scary for him in new places, so Kreed will always offer his hand to help him through those times.”
For Kreed, his best friend role has given him confidence. According to his mom, being able to help others helps him as well.
“Skyler has given Kreed more social confidence. By having a friend, he can 100 percent be himself and finally to be able to actually help another peer rather than being the person always helped,” she said.
Even though they're speechless, the teens communicate in their own way by giving certain looks or connecting through touch. Kreed doesn’t mind if Skyler gets close to him or touches him, which seems to please Skyler. According to Polk's blog, the teens simply want to be around each other.
It's clear that something unites Kreed and Skyler, but it's more than their autism or speechless communication. It's their beautiful friendship --- that clearly has no boundaries.
1.From the passage, we can learn that Skyler and Kreed ______.
A. have something in common B. are of the same age
C. are unable to see each other D. have no ability to communicate
2.How does Kreed help Skyler?
A. By taking him where he dare not go alone.
B. By giving him good advice on where to go.
C. By taking him to the places where he used to go.
D. By getting rid of his scare on the way to school.
3.According to his mother, by helping Skyler, Kreed ______.
A. has gained confidence B. is also benefited
C. is able to communicate better D. is more outgoing
4.We can infer that in Skyler and Kreed’s culture, it is the custom for people ______.
A. to touch each other a lot in small talk B. to talk to each other in close distance
C. to avoid eye contact while chatting D. to keep their distance while chatting

I was in Walt Disney World with my son, Daniel, who is autistic (患自闭症的), and at that time he was 7 years old. My wife and our three other sons were with us too. He was having one of his melt down screaming tantrums (发怒), only God knows why. So my wife and I decided I would take the bus back to the hotel, and she would stay in the park with the other three children.
After we got on the bus, the screaming continued. My son looks “normal”. To the many people on the bus, he appeared to just be a kid screaming --- or a spoiled child who did not get his special toy that day. It did not take long --- less than a minute --- before the screaming brought about stares, then glares from the other passengers.
To my shame, I found myself losing my temper at my own son. I was embarrassed, angry, and frustrated, and felt cheated by God for not being able to enjoy a normal vacation with my family because of him. I started to wonder what life would be like without having to deal with this cross (痛苦).
And just as the reactions of the other passengers were becoming most intense, a man seated just in front of me turned around to face me. I cheered myself up for his advice on how to raise a well-behaved child.
He said calmly, “Is he alright?” I said, “He’s autistic.” Then the man said , “It's alright.” And he smiled. That’s all.
And suddenly, all the anger building up inside me was gone. I almost wept for shame at how I had felt a moment before. It no longer mattered what the other people thought. My son was my gift from God.
I will never forget that man, nor his small, simple act of kindness and understanding. I truly believe he was my son’s guardian angel that day maybe mine too.
1.Why did Daniel become angry?
A.Because he didn't get his special toy.
B.No one knew the reason for his anger.
C.Because something went wrong with him.
D.Because he quarreled with his brother or sister.
2.Hearing Daniel’s screaming, _______.
A.the passengers were not satisfied
B.the passengers felt sorry for the author
C.the author comforted him with patience
D.the driver asked the author and his son to get off
3.What does the third paragraph tell us?
A.How the author helped his son calm down.
B.How the author reacted to his son's screaming.
C.What made the author angry and embarrassed.
D.What the author’s life would be like without Daniel.
4.How did the author’s anger disappear?
A.The bus arrived at the stop near his hotel.
B.A stranger helped him realize his mistake.
C.His son stopped screaming and apologized to him.
D.He suddenly realized his son was an autistic child.
