Nearly everyone is shy in some ways. If shyness is making you uncomfortable, it may be time for a few lessons in self-confidence. You can build your confidence by
following some suggestions from doctors and psychologists.
Make a decision not to hold back in conversations. What you have to say is just as important as what other people say. And don’t turn down party invitations just because of your shyness.
Prepare for yourself for being with others in groups. Make a list of the good qualities you have. Then make a list of ideas, experiences, and skills you would like to share with other people . I think about what you would like to say in advance. Then say it.
If you start feeling self-conscious in a group, take a deep breath and focus your attention on other people, Remember, you are not alone. Other people are concerned about the impression they are making, too.
No one ever gets over being shy completely, but most people do learn to live with their shyness. Even entertainers admit that they often feel shy. They work at fighting their shy feelings so that they can face the cameras and the public. Just making the effort to control shyness can have many rewards. But perhaps the best reason to fight shyness is to give other people a chance to know about you.

How to Study for a Test or Final
The end of the term is drawing near, and that means final exams are on the way. 1.
The most important thing you can do is give yourself plenty of time to prepare. Then follow this plan:
Start early.
Gather all the material you’ve received during the term. Read through your class notes twice. Some things will sound familiar and some things will sound unfamiliar. That’s normal.
Establish a study group or find a partner.
Schedule at least one meeting with a study partner or study group. If you can't completely get together, then exchange email addresses.2.
Use old tests.
Collect your old exams from the year (or semester) and make a photocopy of each one. Write out the test answers and copy each one again.
3.
To get the best results, you should make several copies of each old exam and keep taking the tests until you score perfectly on each one.
Build up your class notes.
Organize your notes by date and make note of any missing dates/pages. Get together with a study partner or group to compare notes and fill in any missing material. 4.Everybody zones out once in a while. After you organize your new set of notes, underline any key words, formulas, themes, and concepts.
Make yourself a new practice test with term definitions and others. Print out several tests and practice several times. 5. Then exchange.
Make use of old assignments.
Gather some old assignments and redo the exercises. Review those exercises until you can answer every question easily.
A. Instant messages will work well, too.
B. Have a set of practice tests.
C. How can you give yourself a chance to improve your scores?
D. You might find one that makes something clear for the first time.
E. Ask the members of your study group to make practice tests as well.
F. Don’t be too surprised if you missed key information from the lectures.
G. Have your friend or study partner raise questions and compare them.

How to Stay Focused in a Noisy World
Block out time for uninterrupted work.
Make sure you schedule important time for yourself where you can focus on your tasks in uninterrupted silence. 1. Think of this as scheduling a meeting with yourself and treat it the same as you would when scheduling a meeting with others.
Turn technology from a distraction into a useful tool.
2. However, there are also some really cool apps that encourage you to be more productive and less distracted by your phone. Forrest is an app that rewards you each time you focus well, motivating you in a fun way and encourages you to leave your phone well alone.
Schedule a distraction time.
Just as important as scheduling focus time is scheduling distraction time. 3. More specifically, the most productive employees spent 52 minutes working followed by a 17-minute break each time. This is down to the brain’s ability to stay motivated--it just can’t sustain(维持)long periods of focus and concentration.
Practice mindfulness.
Mindfulness trains your mind to identify thoughts that arise throughout your day.
Mindfulness practice can be done at any time. 4. When reading, really take in every word or while out walking notice how your body feels and the details of your surroundings. Doing this on a regular basis will eventually train your mind when it comes to other areas where distracting thoughts pop up like a work task.
Exercise regularly.
Not only is exercise good for the body but it’s also good for the brain. Physical exercise fires up the neurons in the brain making you more willing to concentrate. 5.
A. It’s difficult to focus on your work.
B. We need to get rid of distractions around us.
C. These days, many people feel controlled by their phones.
D. A study found that regular breaks was the key to productivity.
E. When you eat your food, notice the taste and how it looks and feels.
F. Let people know that you won't respond unless it’s absolutely necessary.
G. This means it increases your ability to ignore distractions and get on with the task at hand.

You have never seen him,but they're with you every time you fly. They record where you are going, how fast you're traveling and whether everything on your airplane is functioning normally.Their ability to withstand(经受得住)almost any disaster makes them seem like something out of a magic book. They're known as the black box.
When planes fall from the sky,as a Yemeni airliner did on its way to Comoros Islands in the India ocean June 30,2009,the black box is the best bet for identifying what went wrong. So when a French submarine(潜水艇)detected the device's homing signal five days later, the discovery marked a huge step toward determining the cause of a tragedy in which 152 passengers were killed.
In 1958,Australian scientist David Warren developed a flight-memory recorder that would track basic information like altitude and direction. That was the first mode for a black box, which became a requirement on all U.S.commercial flights by 1960.Early models often failed to withstand crashes, however,so in 1965 the device(装置)was completely redesigned and moved to the back of the plane-the area least affected bu impact-from its original position in the landing wells(起落架舱). The same year, the Federal Aviation Authority required that the boxes, which were never actually black,be painted orange or yellow to aid visibility.
Modern airplanes have two black boxes: a voice recorder, which tracks pilots' conversations, and a flight-data recorder, which monitors fuel levels, engine noises and other operating functions that help investigators reconstruct the aircraft's final moments.Placed in an insulated ( 隔绝的) case and surrounded by a quarter-inch-thick panels of stainless steel, the boxes can withstand massive force and temperatures up to 2,000℉.When in deep water, they're also able to emit signals from depths of 20,000 ft.Experts believe the boxes from Air France Flight 447,which crashed near Brazil on June 1,2009,are in water nearly that deep, but statistics say they're still likely to turn up.In the approximately 20 deep-sea crashes over the past 30 years, only one plane's black boxes were never recovered.
1.In Paragraph 1,the author wants to say the black box_________.
A. comes from a comic book B. is an necessary device on an airplane
C. can prevent disasters D. can control the function of an airplane
2.From the black box on the Yemeni airliner _________ could be found.
A. the scene of the crash and the degree of the damage B. the total number of passengers on board
C. homing signals sent by the pilot before the crash D. data for analyzing the cause of the crash
3.Why was the black box redesigned in 1965?
A. The early models often got damaged in the crash. B. New materials became available by that time.
C. Too much space was needed for its device. D. The early models didn't provide the needed data.
4.What do we know about the black boxes from Air France Flight 447?
A. They have stopped sending homing signals. B. There is an urgent need for them to be reconstructed.
C. There is still a good chance of their being recovered. D. They were destroyed somewhere near Brazil.
