The coffee giant Starbucks is once again a popular search on the Internet, and there are people who think that coffee is now replacing tea as the most popular drink in China. But, is that really so?
Starbucks opened its biggest café shop in the world in Shanghai this Wednesday. The coffee giant says this will not only give customers the usual great coffee, but also give them the full experience of how the magical coffee beans get roasted to become those wonderful drops that make up their favorite drinks. It is like the Willy Wonka factory for coffee lovers. The company is expanding aggressively, and opening a new store every 15 hours on average in China.
China has very rich and splendid tea culture. What seems like the most enjoyable thing is to drink a cup of tea on a quiet day that is full of “Zen” (禅) spirit. But the fast-pace of life sometimes doesn’t allow that. So there are tea shop owners locating their shops in the downtown area in order to provide quick service for customers. Take Heytea for example. It’s one of the most highly rated tea shops and it has now opened several new branches in the business areas of big cities like Beijing. Waiting in lines for longer than one hour is common. China’s consumption of tea is immeasurable. According to a research of USC Institute, in China, the average person consumes 400 cups of tea per year.
So it is unlikely that coffee can replace tea as the country’s main drink any time soon. The expanding coffee shops are not there to replace tea, but to provide people with another choice that they can use to enjoy life.

Some say college is wasted on the young. So many of us look back at our own college years and realize what we could have done differently to make the most of them. While we can’t go back, we certainly can offer our sons and daughters our best advice to help them make the right choices in college. Hopefully, they will have fewer regrets than we do. Following are five guidelines parents can share with their college-bound kids to put the whole experience in perspective.
EDUCATION IS YOUR FIRST PRIORITY
As soon as you arrive on campus, there will be competing interests. Feel free to check them out but always remember that you are there first and foremost for your education. Go to class prepared and on time. Be engaged during class. Make sure your professor knows you and realizes that you care.
BE RESPONSIBLE
There are many layers of responsibility. Do what you say you will do and, if you can’t, own up to it early and communicate clearly. But being responsible isn’t just about meeting your commitments; it is also about taking care of you, your body, and your friends. For example, more than 1800 college students die annually from alcohol-related injuries. Look out for yourself and other people. Make moderate, sensible decisions so you aren’t reeling from the consequences later.
TAKE THE OPPORTUNITY
Incredible opportunities will present themselves: studying abroad, interning at a unique place, trying new things. Don’t let fear prevent you from taking advantage of them. There may never be so much time or as many resources devoted to your betterment again in your life. Say yes to opportunities that will help you grow.
FIND AND BE A MENTOR
Some of the best lessons available to us can come outside of the classroom in the form of a mentor. One of the most powerful growth opportunities is being a mentor. Early on, find someone on campus who you feel can help you grow and develop a relationship with him or her. Also find someone for you to mentor. You will reinforce and enrich your own learning experience by teaching someone else.
GET THE JOB DONE
It is natural to occasionally feel you want to quit, when it makes more sense to you to go find a full-time job. Resist that urge. As Jocelyn Negron-Rios, a mother of two, who is currently completing her degree, advises, “No matter how difficult it seems, keep at it because however insurmountable it feels now multiply that by 10,000 and that is how it feels when you are in your thirties with a full-time job and a family and are trying to pursue a degree.”
1.According to the passage, the most important thing for college students is ______.
A. taking part in different activities
B. working hard to get a degree
C. seizing every chance to try new things
D. improving themselves by learning from the others
2.Which of the following about college life is true?
A. Passing on what you’ve learned in college can help you enrich your learning experience.
B. Make sure that you are responsible for yourself rather than others.
C. Professors will not assess your performances in class but the grades you get in exams.
D. You can make full use of the opportunity whenever you want.
3.What can we infer from the words said by Jocelyn in the last paragraph?
A. Persistence is the key to success when you meet with difficulties in your learning process.
B. It is better if you gain more working experience before you finish your education.
C. As long as you work hard, you can gain a degree even when you are in your thirties.
D. Youth is the best time to learn since you have less burden.
4.What is the main purpose of the passage?
A. To give some rules for the college students.
B. To call on the students to make full use of college years.
C. To summarize some tips for parents to share with their children.
D. To analyze the benefits and difficulties of college life.

The word "OK" is the most frequently spoken all-purpose expression on the planet — and it's turning 176 years old on March 23, 2015. The term was born during a 19th-century abbreviation(缩写) craze and went on to international fame with its own hand gesture.
Last year, Henry Nass, a 64-year-old retired English teacher, a New Yorker, had spent the last few weeks handing out cards championing "Global OK Day" in advance of the coming anniversary.
"No matter where people are from they use the word 'OK,' but they don't know where it comes from," says Nass. "The problem is because it's just, you know, OK."
The word is OK, perhaps, but its history is definitely better than average. Late etymologist Allen Walker Read traced the two-letter word to 1839, when editors at the Boston Morning Post signed off on articles as “all correct” with a simple word “OK”.
The word made it into print on March 23 of that year, in an article against a rival editor in Providence who had stated wrongly that a band of Bostonians heading to New York would pass through the Rhode Island capital (Providence).
"We said not a word about our team passing 'through the city' of Providence," the Morning Post reported. "O.K. — all correct."
The humor of the Providence-Boston joke has been lost to history — but the word OK took off from there, soon connoting(隐含) agreement, acceptance, averageness, quality or likability.
By 1840, it served as a slogan for President Martin Van Buren's unsuccessful reelection campaign. “Old Kinderhook is OK,” posters stated, a reference to the eighth president's birthplace and his supporters' belief in his satisfactory performance.
1.Why did Henry Nass hand out cards?
A. To let people understand the history of the word “OK”.
B. To call on people to use the word “OK” properly.
C. To appeal to people to celebrate OK Day.
D. To attract people’s attention.
2.What does the author want to convey in Paragraph 4?
A. The history of the word “OK” is known to average people.
B. The history of the word “OK” is unfamiliar to people.
C. People frequently use the word “OK” in history.
D. People are fond of the word “OK” in history.
3.What does the underlined phrase “took off” in Paragraph 7 probably mean?
A. Got off B. Set up
C. Moved off D. Became popular
4.We can learn from the text that Kinderhook is of the eighth American president.
A. the name B. the birthplace
C. the policy D. the belief
