A new graph has revealed exactly how long you’11 need to sweat it out in the gym to neutralize (抵消) swallowing a favorite fast food.
While eating fried chicken, pizza and burgers will all entail a gym session of over an hour doing cardio(有氧运动)or lifting weights, women have it far harder than men and must work extra hard to banish calorie-packed meals.
After a classic McDonald's favorite, the Big Mac, men would need to do 42 minutes of cardio or 57 minutes of weightlifting.
As for women, fifty one minutes of cardio would help counter the 24 grams of fat in a Big Mac---over a quarter of the recommended daily allowance - --or an hour and eight minutes of weightlifting.
However, the 450g Tesco chocolate cake was by far the worst offender. Clocking in at a whopping 1,710 calories and 90 grams of fat, only a hardcore gym session is going to shift the calories you’ve absorbed from this dessert. The average woman would have to lift weights for almost four hours to work off the calories in this cake.
Comparatively a chocolate bar seems healthy, with 237 calories which would take 25 minutes for the average woman to run off. Alternatively you could spend thirty three minutes doing weightlifting exercises.
Men will have to complete 40 minutes of cardio and 53 minutes of weightlifting while women will have to complete 48 minutes of cardio and 64 minutes of weightlifting against the calories in French fries.
1.The fat of the recommended daily allowance for women is _________grams.
A .18 B. 20 C. 24 D. 30
2.According to the passage, __________is the unhealthiest food.
A. French fries B. the Big Mac
C. a chocolate bar D. Tesco chocolate cake
3.Compared with men, women must spend ________to consume the calories in French fries.
A. 11 more minutes lifting weights
B. 8 less minutes doing cardio
C. 8 more minutes lifting weights
D. 11 less minutes doing cardio
4.The main purpose of the passage is to___________.
A. inform us to stay away from fast food
B. offer us advice on how to keep healthy
C. tell us some information about fast food
D.suggest what we do to work off the calories

New research has revealed that which song drivers listen to can influence how safe they are on the roads.Among the top ten safest songs to drive to are Come Away With Me by Norah Jones,I Don't Want to Miss a Thing by Aerosmith and Tiny Dancer by Elton John. Each of the songs has an optimum tempo(最佳节奏) for safe driving, imitating the human heartbeat at around 60 to 80 beats per minute. The Scientist by Coldplay and Justin Timberlake's Cry Me a River also appeared in the top 10.
The study, conducted at London Metropolitan University, also revealed the type of songs that cause motorists to drive dangerously.Unsurprisingly, music that is noisy increases a driver's heart rate, which can be deadly.Fast beats cause excitement that can lead people to concentrate more on the music than on the road and to speed up to match the beat of the song.Styles of music were also measured during the experiment and revealed differences between male and female drivers.Hiphop made a female driver drive far more aggressively, speeding up faster than male driver. The heavy metal music caused the fastest driving among males in the group while the dance music had the same effect among women. The male and female drivers who listened to the classical music drove the most irregularly.
The experiment involved eight people driving 500 miles each using the confused.com MotorMate app, which monitored driving behaviors through GPS technology.
1.What's the main idea of the whole passage?
A.Songs that drivers prefer to listen to on their way.
B.A study made by the confused.com MotorMate app.
C.What kind of songs the drivers should choose to listen to during driving.
D.Female drivers and male drives have different responses to the same music.
2.The underlined word “monitored” in the last paragraph means________.
A.controlled B.banned C.modeled D.showed
3..Which of the following statements is NOT true?
A.Tiny Dancer by Elton John appeared in the top 10.
B.Usually human hearts beat at around 60 to 80 beats per minute.
C.The classical music makes most drivers drive comfortably and safely.
D.The passage reveals appropriate music and improper music for drivers.
4.If there is another paragraph in the end of the passage, the author may mention________.
A.female and male drivers' popular tastes of music
B.how did the study carry out
C.why fast beat music is harmful to drivers
D.some music with optimum tempo for driver to enjoy

75 years—that’s how long it took to conduct the Harvard Grant Study that revealed the state of success and happiness depends on two things: love and work ethic (工作准则). 1. And the idea that children doing chores are more likely to succeed is surely new.
Kids who grow up doing chores contribute.
Chores help a person develop a certain attitude which can lead to them taking charge when there’s help needed. 2. Those who’ve learned to take the initiative since childhood are more likely to be leaders.
Kids develop self-efficacy.
When a kid sees that his / her actions lead to a certain outcome, it opens a door to a whole network of other activities like thinking, coping, trying, failing and succeeding. It gives the kid more space to experience life in general. 3.
They become more capable and responsible.
4. And protecting your child from household duties and building a dependent pattern of behavior does more damage in the end. More or less independent living will cause a definite stress for a child who gets used to the fact that a certain part of their life is done without their participation or effort.
They figure out how to get tasks done.
Parents should not put all the effort into kids’ good grades and thick resume, but rather on forming a certain set of habits, skills and a mindset in general. 5. This includes, for example, the ability to schedule a day, prioritize urgent and important tasks.
A.It’s more or less obvious with love.
B.Kids should be rewarded for doing chores.
C.This quality will be useful in group projects.
D.This will help them more in life than good grades ever will.
E.Parents should encourage kids to do chores for the good of health.
F.Chores are a big part of everyday life which is impossible to avoid.
G.Doing chores gives them more control over another area of their life.

Getting on with colleagues is more important to workers than a big salary, a new study has revealed.
A detailed study of work attitudes found that many factors outweigh the pay cheque, such as relationships with colleagues, self-worth, and the nature of the job itself. Eight in ten of the 2,000 people polled said they would turn down a big salary increase if it meant working with people or in an environment they didn’t like. The results showed people are the most important factor in work-related happiness, along with enjoying the role and getting on with the boss.
And a manageable commute was also considered more important than good pay, according to the study by the Association of Accounting Technicians (AAT).
Chief Executive Mark Farrar said: “The results show that, when it comes to working happiness, money is far from the driving factor for most of us.” “Of course, life dictates that we earn as much as we can to maintain or improve our circumstances, but most regarded working with good people or in a role they feel valued in as more important than the salary.” “Most of us will spend the biggest portion of our lives working and it’s important that any job we have enhances us both professionally and personally.”
“Many respondents had turned down higher paid jobs because it would have meant less time with the family and a poor work-life balance.”
The study also found a third had left a job despite it being well paid – mainly because they didn’t think it was worth the added pressure.
While others felt they weren’t given the right appreciation from senior staff or the role stopped challenging them. Three quarters would struggle to accept a job that gave them more money if they knew it would be a lot more stressful.
In fact, pay was only the sixth biggest factor for people staying in their current job, with Britons prioritizing good relationships with those around them, enjoying the role and the commuting time over thinking about the money.
Only 15 percent of the 2000 workers polled actively disliked their current job.
When asked why they were unhappy, respondents were more likely to feel the nature of the work was dull and unfulfilling or that their boss didn’t appreciate them than they were to say their pay was too low.
1.The article is mainly about_____________________.
A. why money is important in a job
B. what is important in a job
C. why people dislike their jobs
D. how people get satisfying jobs
2.What matters most for work happiness according to the poll?
A. A nice boss.
B. A handsome salary.
C. Good balance of work and life.
D. Good relationships with colleagues.
3.The underlined word “prioritizing” is closest in meaning to _________.
A. considering something more important
B. putting something aside
C. doubting
D. Weighing

New genetic analysis has revealed that many Amazon tree species are likely to survive human-made climate warming in the coming century, contrary to previous findings that temperature increases would cause them to die out. A study, 1 in the latest edition of Ecology and Evolution, reveals the 2 age of some Amazonian tree species -- more than 8 million years -- and 3 shows that they have survived previous periods as warm as many of the global warming imagined periods 4 for the year 2100.
The authors write that, having survived warm periods in the past, the trees will 5 survive future warming, provided there are no other major environmental changes. 6 extreme droughts and forest fires will impact Amazonia as temperatures 7, the trees will stand the direct impact of higher temperatures. The authors 8 that as well as reducing greenhouse gas emissions to minimize the risk of drought and fire, conservation policy should remain 9 on preventing deforestation(采伐森林)for agriculture and mining.
The study disagrees with other recent researches which predicted tree species’ extinctions 10 relatively small increases in global average air temperatures.
Study co-author Dr Simon Lewis (UCL Geography) said the 11 were good news for Amazon tree species, but warned that drought and over-exploitation of the forest remained major 12 to the Amazon’s future.
Dr Lewis said: “The past cannot be compared directly with the future. while tree species seem likely to 13 higher air temperatures than today, the Amazon forest is being transformed for agriculture and 14, and what remains is being degraded by logging, and increasingly split up by fields and roads.
“Species will not move as freely in today’s Amazon as they did in previous warm periods, when there was no human 15. Similarly, today’s climate change is extremely fast, making comparisons with slower changes in the past 16.”
“With a clearer 17 of the relative risks to the Amazon forest, we 18 that direct human impacts -- such as forest clearances for agriculture or mining -- should remain a key point of conservation policy. We also need more aggressive 19 to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in order to make minimum the risk of drought and fire impacts and 20 the future of most Amazon tree species.”

Using a computer or smartphone at night can cause us to pile on the pounds, new research has revealed.
The study found a link between blue light exposure(blue light is produced by smartphones and computers)and increased hunger. It found that exposure to blue light increases hunger levels for several hours and even increases hunger levels after eating a meal.Blue light exposure has also already been shown to cause decreased sleepiness in the evening, increasing the risk of sleeplessness.
The leading researcher,Ivy Cheung, from Northwestern University in Chicago, said,“A single three-hour exposure to blue-enriched light in the evening greatly affected hunger and metabolism(新陈代谢).These results are important because they suggest that controlling environmental light exposure for humans may represent a novel approach of influencing food intake patterns and metabolism.”
The study group consisted of 10 healthy adults with regular sleep and eating schedules. They completed a four-day trial under dim(昏暗的)light conditions, which involved exposure to less than 20 lux(勒克斯,照明单位)during 16 hours awake and less than 3 lux during eight hours of sleep. On the third day they were exposed to three hours of 260 lux,blue-enriched light starting10.5 hours after waking up.and the effects were compared with dim light exposure.
Ivy Cheung said more research is needed to determine the functions involved in the relationship between light exposure, hunger and metabolism.

How long you live has a lot to do with your environment and lifestyle, but exceptional(特别的)long life may have even more to do with your genes. For the first time, researchers have discovered a genetic recipe(基因谱)that accurately predicts who may live to 100 and beyond.
Analysis shows that 90% of the participants who lived to 100 had at least one of the signature genetic clusters(标志基因组). Dr. Thomas Perls at the Boston University School of Medicine said, “We realize this is a complex genetic puzzle. There is a long way for us to go to understand how the integration(融合)of these genes—not just with themselves but with environmental factors—is playing a role in this long life puzzle.”
Perls has studied many factors that contribute to long life, and he is the first to acknowledge that living longer isn’t likely to be simply a matter of genes. His previous work has shown, for example, that among most elderly people who live into their 70s and 80s, about 70% can owe their long life to environmental factors such as not smoking; eating a healthy, low-fat, low-calorie diet; and remaining socially engaged and mentally active throughout life.
It seems clear that those who live extremely long are benefiting from a special DNA. In fact, Perls believes that the older a person gets, the more likely it is that his or her genes are contributing to those extended years.
1.Which of the following is TRUE according to Paragraph 2?
A. Most long-living people have special long-life-related genes.
B. Ninety percent of the participants lived to 100 years of age.
C. All the long-living people have only one signature genetic cluster.
D. Scientists know how the integration of the genes helps people live long.
2. Perls may most likely agree that ________.
A. most people living extremely long benefit from not smoking
B. living longer just depends on certain genetic recipes
C. environmental factors play an important role in long-living
D. being mentally active has nothing to do with living an old age
3. Which of the following is FALSE according to the text?
A. Remaining socially engaged helps a person to live long.
B. A genetic recipe can accurately predict who may live to 100 and beyond.
C. Perls is the first to think living longer is just a matter of genes.
D. The older he gets, the more likely the genes contribute to his extended years.
4.Which of the following would be the best title for the text?
A. Genes May Predict Who Lives to 100 B. Environment And Genes
C. Genes, the Secret of Long Living D. Lifestyle And Genes
