If you are worried about things and are under a lot of stress at work or school, then you are probably not sleeping well. Worry can keep you awake, tossing and turning in bed until the early hours of the morning when you eventually fall asleep. When you wake up, you don’t feel refreshed, but tired and worn out and unable to face a new day.
Dr. Henry Winkle, in a recent newspaper article entitled Stress and Sleep, indicates(暗示、表明)that . Dr. Winkle says, “The more we worry, the less we sleep, the more we are unable to deal with stress. If we can find a way to get a good night’s sleep,” he adds, “we can often find the energy to deal with what’s worrying us.”
So, what is a good night’s sleep? Research shows that the amount of sleep which people need in order to keep healthy varies a lot. Seven hours is about the average amount, though strangely enough, sleeping longer often gives you a headache instead of making you feel more refreshed.
Dr. Winkle believes that preparing for sleeping is important. People who work late should try to give themselves a short break and do something restful before going to bed. This could be watching TV or listening to music. Doing some exercise earlier in the day should help you to feel physically as well as mentally tired. A bedtime drink can also help, but coffee or tea should be avoided as they contain caffeine and will keep you awake. “When you put the light out,” Dr. Winkle says, “concentrate on relaxing your muscles, working slowly up from your feet, and you’ll be asleep before you know it.”

"Wow, you got an A without even studying."
"Your drawing is wonderful --you're my little Picasso."
If you're like most parents, you offer praise to your children believing it is the key to their success. But according to a new study, praise may do more harm than good.
For the study, after a simple IQ test, one group was told it did really well and must be very smart. The other group was told it did really well and must have worked hard. One group was praised for intelligence, .
Asked if they wanted to take a slightly harder test, the kids praised for their intelligence were unwillingly.Of those praised for their effort, however, 90 percent were eager for a more challenging task. And on a final test the effort group performed significantly better than the group praised for its intelligence.
Many of the kids who had been labeled "smart" performed worst of all.The "hard workers" got the message that they could improve their scores by trying harder, but the "smart" kids believed they should do well without any effort. Thus, kids who get too much praise are less likely to take risks, are highly sensitive to failure and are more likely to give up when faced with a challenge.
Tips for Parents:
◆Avoid labels.Praising for effort sends the message that your child has the power to improve and change.Be mindful of labeling yourself and others.
◆Teach kids from an early age that the brain is a muscle that can be strengthened with practice. This sends the message that kids can directly affect their intelligence.
◆Parents often praise their kids to make themselves feel good, or to protect their kids from failure. But it's vital for parents to help their kids to learn to deal with setbacks and to help them focus on ways to improve.

Eating disorder is very common now. "When I first wrote about this. the problem was pretty much hidden … I didn't expect it to get as bad as it is." Susie Orbach, an international authority on eating disorders, said.
Orbach must at times think the anti-diet message of her book “fat is a Feminist Issue(女权主义问题)”has been lost since it was written more than 20 years ago.
Girls, boys, old people -- even the famously well-rounded female population of Fiji are falling victims(牺牲品) to fat fear.
"If anything, the situation has got much, much worse. We now have kids as young as eight and women in old people's homes worried about the way they look." Orbach said.
Even though it has been proved that repeated dieting results in a little more than regaining most of the lost weight, constant dieting has become a way of life for many women. 48 per cent of British women aged 25 to 35 were on some kind of diet and 20 per cent of young women dieted all or most of time. Some of them said they would pop a pill to give them their beautiful shape, even if it meant risking their health. Worldwide, 70 million people have an eating disorder. Most are women, but men are increasingly affected, too.
More than half the women and two thirds of the men in Britain weigh too much. while in the United States more than one quarter of adults and about one in five children are overweight. The idea that female beauty is a very thin body could be changed, if clothing factories and magazines showed images(形象) of women of all shapes instead of selecting skeletal-like models and stick-thin actress.
But that is easier said than done.
To get the message across, Orbach is also considering talking to pop stars such as Victoria Beckham and Geri Halliwell, both of whom have admitted__________________.

Some weight-loss camps, which are rare in China just a few years ago, have sprouted(萌芽) in Beijing, Qingdao, Shenzhen, and other cities. Today about 15 percent of adults, or 200 million Chinese, are reportedly overweight. Of these, 90 million—about 7 percent—are obese(极肥胖的).
Experts say the obesity epidemic is spreading to children, though more slowly than in adults. The trend, they say, will have a huge impact on the health of China's citizens and economy. "We're seeing a very large proportion(比例) of children and adolescents who are quite heavy and aren't moving much," said Barry Popkin, a nutrition professor. Popkin carries out an ongoing health-and-nutrition survey of 16,000 households in China. He says more kids today are overeating and putting on weight "quite quickly." In just ten years China's childhood obesity rate has doubled, with the greatest gains coming in urban(城市的) areas. "In big cities it's a big problem."
Some experts blame the extra fat on a range of factors, many of them tied to China's rapidly changing economy and culture. The diets of Chinese adults and children are far higher in calorie-laden meats, fish, eggs, dairy products, fats, and sugars than ever before. __________, kids—especially city dwellers—are more sedentary(久坐的) today and spend more time indoors in front of homework, television, computer games, and the Internet.
Shuwen Ng, a health economist, says that kids in China now have pocket money, and they spend a portion of it on junk food. Ng adds that advertising and peer groups influence kids' food choices. Certain foods, such as new candies or fast food, have attractive features.
China's childhood obesity rate still lags that of the United States, where some 15 percent of kids are said to be obese. But the long-term effects are equally serious.

After achieving a 9 percent GDP growth, hosting a successful Olympic Games and carrying out its first space walk the year before last, you'd think China would be happy.__________________.That, at least, is the opinion of a new book written by a group of Chinese authors.
China Is Not Happy was published in March, 2009.It is a follow-up to the 1996 work China Can Say No, a bestseller that complained about the influence of the West, and the US in particular, on China.Thirteen years later, the authors of China Is Not Happy list their dissatisfaction with how China is being treated in the world today.
They argue that China needs to use its growing power and economic resources to build its own position of preeminence (卓越)."From looking at the history of human civilization, we are most qualified to lead this world." the book says.
The authors, single out the US for special scorn (轻蔑)."The economic problem has shown the Chinese people that America does have problems, that what we've been saying is right," said one of the authors.
The book has become a bestseller in many Chinese bookstores.Yet much of the response to the book has been negative.Several reviews in the Chinese media have criticized the book's radical (激进的) opinions. The book is a way to "fish money from the pockets of the angry youth and angry elderly," wrote one critic in the China Youth Daily.Meanwhile, a well-known sociologist, Li Yinhe, has said that China needs patriotism (爱国主义), but there is a limit. In her blog she wrote, "If we are to bully (欺负) other countries, take the world's resources and try to lead it, we're going over the top."

[1]When we were children, it seemed that father knew everything. When we grew up and father became older, sometimes we quarreled about our own views. So I try to get on well with father.
[2]Remember the age of father. Being aware of father’s age will help us to understand him better. He has lived in the years when attitudes towards matters, such as poverty, unemployment, higher education, were quite different from those in our time. Thus it is impossible for him to change mind totally.
[3]Listen to father. As we grew up, what our father has told us often sounds not sophisticated(圆滑的)enough from the world we live in today. Yet I have found that sometimes the words that my father told me long time ago are remarkably useful. If father knows we respect his point of view, even if we do not share it, it will help him feel close to us.
[4]Remember that father has a past. When he was young, he lived a hard life. He came from remote village. How to stay in a strange city and how to earn money are problems he met first. He must work hard and face all kinds of difficulties. Full of wisdom, courage and hope, ________

There’s nothing wrong with turning your hobbies into business. We’re supposed to enjoy our work, right? Just turn something we already enjoy into our careers. Whether you’re turning into painting or building, you know you feel proud of the result of your efforts.
However, you should first explore the concept and do your market research and other planning. Don’t forget to consider what your day-to-day work life would look like.
There is one very positive aspect of doing a business plan based on your hobby. You may be highly motivated to do some planning and research, since this relates to an activity you know well and enjoy, and then you may be more likely to do the necessary planning. This is a big plus! And once you see how to do this research, you may be more likely to do it for other ideas you will come up with.
Something I’ve learned over the years is that creating business out of the first few ideas you come up with isn’t a good goal. If you are brainstorming ideas for your new career path, I suggest you list lots of ideas and choose one or two that have the most potential to explore, as well as those that really draw you in.
The evolution of your ideas is the best reason to explore those first ideas. The best careers come from exploring the first ideas and finding out what will and what won’t work for you.
Make sure the business plan you are creating based on your hobbies should be the one that you will enjoy and that will add to your quality of life. Then start with your hobbies, and enjoy the adventure of finding out where you will end up!

An American friend of mine who was high up in a big corporation had worked out a way of handling a flood of e-mails before most of us had even heard of the concept. If any information he was sent was vital enough, his lack of response could ensure the sender rang him up. If the sender wasn’t important enough to have his private number, the communication couldn’t be that important. My friend is now even more senior in the same company, so the strategy must work.
Almost every week now, there seems to be a report suggesting that we are all being driven crazy by the bother of e-mail. If this is the case, it’s only because we haven’t developed an appropriate discrimination in dealing with it.
______. Firstly, you junk anything with an exclamation mark or a string of capital letters, or from any address you don’t recognize or feel confident about.
Secondly, e-mails don’t all have to be answered. Because e-mailing is so easy, there’s a tendency for correspondence to carry on for ever, but it is permissible to stop an endless discussion or to accept a point of information sent by a colleague without acknowledging it.
Thirdly, a reply e-mail doesn’t have to be the same length as the original. We all have e-mail pals who send long, chatty e-mails, which are nice to receive, but who then expect an equally long reply. The charm of e-mail can consist in the simple, incomplete sentence, totally regardless of the format of the letter sent by post. You are perfectly within the bounds of politeness in responding to a marathon e-mail with a brief reply.
