It’s 5:00 in the morning when the alarm rings in my ears.I roll out of bed and walk blindly through the dark into the bathroom.I turn on the light and put on my glasses. The house is still as I walk downstairs while my husband and three kids sleep peacefully.Usually I go for a long run,but today I choose my favorite exercise DVD insanity.Sweat pours down my face and into my eyes.My heart races as I face my body to finish each movement. As I near the end of the exercise,I feel extremely tired, but a smile is of my face. It’s a smile because the DVD is over, but a smile of success from pushing my body to its extreme limit.
Some people enjoy shopping, smoking, food, work,or even chocolate. But I need exercise to get through each day. Some shake heads when they see me run through the town.Others get hurt when I refuse to try just one bite of their grandmother’s chocolate cake. They raise their eyebrows, surprised by my “no thank you,” or by my choice to have a salad.Over the years,I have learned it’s okay to just say “no.” I shouldn’t feel sorry for refusing food that I don’t want to eat.
So what drives me to roll out of bed at 5:00 a.m.?What gives me the reason to just say to ice cream?Commitment.A commitment to change my life with a way that reduces daily anxiety, increases self–confidence and energy, extends life and above all improves my body shape. This is the point where a smile appears on my face as I look at myself in the mirror or try on my favorite pair of jeans that now fit just right. It’s through commitment and sweat that I can make a difference within myself inside and out.
1.Why is there a smile on the author’s face in the morning?
A.Because she sees her family sleeping peacefully.
B.Because she finishes her favorite exercise
C.Because she enjoys the interesting DVD
D.Because she feels a sense of achievement
2.Which of the following is true according to Paragraph 2?
A.She doesn’t like others r politely
B.She likes to make others surprised

The first thing I do in the mornings is look at my phone. That's mainly because my phone is my alarm clock, but once my eyes are open and that screen is lit up in my hands, it's an awfully short trip to check emails and pursue headlines. There's no reason for me to doing this. My emails that early in the morning are mainly junk, and the headlines won't change much before I' ve brushed my teeth and poured a cup of coffee, right?
My wife says I'm addicted to my phone, I disagree, but I can definitely stand to spend less time looking at it. I'm not terribly active on social media, but I do enjoy me some idle scrolling. And, wow, do these tech companies know how to keep those thumbs constantly swiping up? We've got a daughter. and while I think we're pretty good about limiting her screen time, it would seem that technology has fascinated me from the start. So, I decided to try loosening my phone's grasp on my attention by switching the screen to black and white.
Changing the display to black and white is very easy. In your iPhone's settings(设置) , choose General(通用功能) , then Accessibility(辅助功能). Next choose Display Accommodations(显示调节) , then Color Filters(滤镜). Tap the toggle(切换器) on and a list of filters appears.
Choose Grayscale and you're all set.
1.What is the actual reason for the author's looking at his phone in the mornings?
A. He turns off his alarm clock.
B. He can't help doing so.
C. He has to check emails before they change.
D. He can have a short trip while scrolling it.
2.What does the author's wife think of the time he spends using his phone?
A. Modest use, B. Over use. C. Under use. D. Adequate use.
3.How does the author decrease to use his phone?
A. By changing the screen to black and white . B. By limiting his screen time.
C. By ignoring the tech companies. D. By looking after his daughter.
4.What's the final step to set the phone to black and white?
A. Choose General. B. Choose Accessibility.
C. Choose Grayscale. D. Choose Color Filters .

I will never forget the days when I met with my classmates. Early in the morning of our first school day, our professor introduced himself and challenged us to get to know someone we didn’t know yet. I stood up look around when a gentle hand touched my shoulder. I turned round to find a wrinkled, little old lady beaming up at me with a smile that lit up her entire being.
She said, “Hi handsome. My name is Rose. Can I give you a hug?”
I laughed and enthusiastically responded, “Of course you may!” and she gave me a giant squeeze.
“Why are you in college at such a young, innocent age?” I asked.
She jokingly replied, “I’m here to meet a rich husband, get married, and have a couple of kids…”
“No seriously,” I asked. I was curious what may have motivated her to be taking on this challenge at her age.
“I always dreamed of having a college education and now I’m getting one!” she told me.
After class we shared a chocolate milkshake. We became instant friends. Every day we would leave class together and talk nonstop. I was always mesmerized(迷住)listening to this “time machine” as she shared her wisdom and experience with me.
At the end of the semester we invited Rose to speak at our football banquet. I’ll never forget what she taught us.
“There is only one secret to staying young. You’ve got to have a dream. When you lose your dreams, you die. We have so many people walking round who are dead and don’t even know it! There is a huge difference between growing older and growing up. If I am eighty-seven years old and stay in bed for a year and never do anything I will turn eighty-eight. Anybody can grow older. That doesn’t take any talent of ability. The idea is to grow up by always finding opportunity in change. Have no regrets. The elderly usually don’t have regrets for what we did, but rather for things we did not do. The only people who fear death are those with regrets.”
She concluded her speech by courageously singing The Rose. She challenged each of us to study the lyrics and live them out in our daily lives.
1.Why did the lady want to hug the author?
A. Because she wanted to challenge her professor.
B. Because she wanted to break the ice.
C. Because she wanted to find a rich husband.
D. Because she wanted to have a college education.
2.Which of the following statements agrees with the text best?
A. The author enjoyed his experience of riding in the “time machine”.
B. The author and the lady soon became close friends.
C. Talented people can easily find opportunities.
D. Old people usually don’t fear death.
3.It can be inferred that Rose is ________.
A. a lively college student B. the author’s girlfriend
C. a young and innocent lady D. an encouraging song
4.What is the life lesson the author learned from his experience?
A. An idle youth, a needy age.
B. Learn wherever you are.
C. A faithful friend is hard to find.
D. A man is not old until regrets to take the place of dreams.
