Family members of Rebiya Kadeer have asked her not to organize violence or undermine (破坏) the peaceful life in Xinjiang, in letters made public on Monday. They blamed her for organizing the riot in Urumqi on July 5 and apologized to the victims in two separate letters.
Kadeer’s son Khahar, daughter Roxingul and younger brother Memet wrote a letter to her, expressing their discontent for her turning against her own promises of not taking part in separatist activities and voicing their anger over the violent event.
“Because of you, so many innocent people lost their lives in Urumqi on July 5, and so many houses, shops and vehicles were burnt or damaged," they wrote. "The harmony and unity among ethnic groups were undermined."
Xinjiang is a happy home to people of different ethnic groups and no one wants to destroy it, they wrote. “We want a stable and safe life,” they said. “Please think about the happiness of us and your grandchildren. Don't destroy our happy life here. Don’t follow the provocation (挑衅) from some people in other countries.”
In another letter to the victims of the July 5 riot, they held Kadeer and the World Uygur Congress (WUC) responsible for the riot. “Evidence proved the riot was organized by the WUC, led by Rebiya Kadeer, and carried on by a group of separatists within the Chinese borders.”
After an incident between Uygur and Han workers of a factory in Shaoguan of southern Guangdong Province broke out on June 26, Kadeer exaggerated (夸大) the facts on the Internet, raising the death toll from two to more than 50, and posted false pictures, which started the violent event, they wrote.
“Those who committed crimes should take the responsibilities,” they said.
The statement from the Urumqi Public Security Bureau said the 319 people had been detained (拘留) after information was received from the public or obtained through the police investigation.
The arrests are in addition to the 253 detentions, police announced on July 29. Before that, more than 1,000 suspects had been detained by July 6, the second day of the violence. The suspects would face charges in connection with the riot that left 197 people dead.
"Every suspect, without any exception, will be arrested and punished according to the law to root out any hidden danger,” it said.

In Vietnam, two members of a family of street vendors are finding a way to help the poorest students in Hanoi. Pham Minh Dap and his brother are providing the students with mostly free English and Japanese lessons at a learning center they created. The men want to help people who would not normally have a chance to learn a foreign language.
Some education experts in Vietnam say such knowledge may help college graduates get jobs. The country’s economy has improved. But many graduates continue to have a hard time finding employment. Local media reported ten percent of university graduates do not have a job.
Earlier this year, 24-year-old Pham Minh Dap and his brother established a school they call “Stand By You”. Volunteers teach poor students English and Japanese. Many classes are free. Students with some language knowledge pay 25 to 50 cents per class. Mr. Dap pays about $ 500 to rent the language center space and for other costs. He gives about $ 150 from his earnings as a street Vendor and private language teaching. His brother gives the same amount from the money he earns as a secretary. Friends provide the rest. Mr. Dap and many of his family members have sold things outside HoaBinh Park in the center of Vietnam’s capital for five years. They come from a village of rice farmers in Thanh Hoa Province.
Twenty-four-year-old Pham THi Trang is one of 600 students at the language school. She is finishing her university studies. Her parents work in a market in a village in Ha Nam Province. She has said she has to be very careful with money so she can pay her bills.
Demand for the school is growing. About 1,000 people are on a waiting list to enter. Ten people have offered to teach for free. And Mr. Dap says he is hoping to raise money to pay for a bigger place. He wants to open more classes.

高三英语阅读理解中等难度题查看答案及解析
Many people rush into the commitment of bringing home a four-legged family member, only to find out that they are not ready for a pet. This often results in the dog being turned over to a shelter where it may not find another home. This can be avoided if potential pet owners take the time to figure out if they are truly ready for the responsibilities of pet ownership.
Being a responsible pet owner involves a financial commitment that goes beyond buying dog food. There are also parasite (寄生虫) prevention, boarding costs while traveling and the cost to care for the pet should it become ill or injured. That is not to say that one must be rich in order to have a dog, but it is important to be prepared for the expenses that come with being a pet owner.
Another consideration is the time commitment. An owner away from home for 14 hours every day is not an ideal situation for a dog. A potential dog owner must also consider the time it takes to care for his or her pet, the time it takes to feed, walk, play with, bathe and clean up. Also, dogs require attention. Be prepared to spend time each day petting and playing with it.
Dogs are dogs, and will act like dogs. This includes barking, digging, having accidents in the house and, possibly, destroying some of the owner’s prized possessions, such as furniture, shoes and cell phones. If the above would cause an owner to want to get rid of the dog, then he or she is not yet ready to be a pet owner. Many wonderful pets end up in shelters simply because they acted like dogs!
1.Who might be qualified to be a dog owner, according to the text?
A. Jim, who has a daughter sensitive to dog’s smell.
B. Dick, a jobless teenager who can hardly pay his rent.
C. Kari, a teacher who works eight hours a day.
D. Steven, a business man who travels a lot on business.
2.To be a responsible dog owner you need to do all the following EXCEPT _________.
A. finding a shelter for it when you are bored with it
B. buying dog food and feeding it
C. taking it to hospital when necessary
D. spending time each day playing with it
3.What does the underlined part in the first paragraph probably mean?
