For many men, the idea that they have a better sense of direction than women has been improved by a scientific study.
Researchers from Norway scanned on the brains of volunteers as they completed navigation (导航) tasks to discover men are more skillful at finding their way because they use a separate part of their brain. According to lead researcher Dr. Cal Pintzka from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU), men and women have different navigational strategies.
Med use basic directions—the use of north, south, east and west—during navigation to a greater degree. Men’s sense of direction was more effective. They quite simply got to their destination faster. “If they’re going to the Students Society building in Trodheim, for example, men usually go into the general direction where it is located.” Dr. Pintzka explained.
Women usually orient (标定方向) themselves along a route to get there, for example, go past the hairdresser and then up the street and turn right after the shore.
The study shows that using the basic directions is more efficient because it is a more flexible strategy. The destination can be reached faster because the strategy depends less on where you start.
Meanwhile, the study also shows both men and women use large areas of the brain when they navigate, but some areas were different. The man used the hippocampus (海马体) more, whereas women use their frontal areas to a greater extent. That degrees with the fact that the hippocampus is necessary to make use of basic directions. Losing one’s sense of direction is one of the first symptoms in Alzheimer’s disease.
Understanding how men and women use different brain areas and strategies to navigate, researchers will be able to enhance the understand of the disease’s development, and develop coping strategies for those already affected.

For many the idea of your dream home is not buying a bigger home, but a home that you have built by yourself. A house that is unique and fit for your tastes and your lifestyle. It sounds great but where do you begin to design your dream home? Here is a quick guide that can help you make your dreams come true.
The first step is to get an idea of what type of home you want. You can get inspiration from others. Drive around to neighbourhoods that have the styles of homes you like and take pictures. You can also cut out pictures from magazines, newspapers, or print out pictures you find on the Internet.
The next step will be to make two lists of items for yourself. The first list will be those items or features that you feel your new home must have, such as granite counter tops or a hot water heater. The second list will be those items or features that are on your wish list like a fireplace or slate floors.
At this point you will probably have a good idea of what your dream home will look like, so you will need to seek some professional help. You will need to hire an architect to put your ideas down on paper. You may need to interview a few different architects to find one that you are comfortable with. Make sure whomever you choose for final drawings has a full understanding of local building codes and zoning bylaws. In any ease your final plan will need to be approved by the city and a building permit must be obtained before any construction can begin.
It is time to look for a contractor(承包人). Whichever way you can do it in, be sure you are comfortable with your contractor and you have got references from his past clients. Remember the more homework you do in the beginning, the more enjoyable the process will be.

Women make better drivers than men for many reasons. Why is that? Wouldn't you think that competing at who has better driving abilities is pointless? If you ask me, I'd like to say, men know that women are better drivers but do not have the courage to admit the truth.
Unlike men, women stop for directions when they have no idea where they are going. Women don't drive around for hours pointlessly wasting a tank of gas only to find themselves heading in the wrong direction. Have you ever been in a car with a man who is lost? He tells you to shut up when you begin to open your mouth. And every five minutes or so he takes a turn going forty-five miles per hour only to find out he's made another wrong turn.
Speeding is what men do best on the road. Traffic is not a race. There is a reason why men get more speeding tickets than women. Not because women trick to get out of tickets but only because they don't speed. Women don't risk putting their own lives and the lives of others in danger. In other words ,they have more responsibility for life.
My largest issue with male drivers is how a majority of them drive with one hand on the wheel and the other hand doing only God knows what. The seat is backed as far as possible. They're totally lost in loud music beyond a necessary level. You don't ever see women driving like that.
I feel that the above evidence more than proves my points that women are queens of the road. Oh ,men, if you want to continue criticizing women for being bad drivers, bring it on. We know you lack confidence, or else you wouldn't be wasting your valuable time making jokes about the ones you may choose to spend the rest of your days with.

Most of us have gone away from “mad men” in the street, only to realize that they are in fact using a Bluetooth headset. Now a new University of Pennsylvania study shows that muttering can actually help people find lost objects—in other words, saying the name of an object helps you find it more quickly.
Previous work has suggested that speaking aloud while performing step-by-step tasks, like tying shoelaces (鞋带), can help kids guide their behavior and let them focus on the job in hand. However, scientists were not sure if speaking aloud when performing tasks could help adults in the same way, especially when looking for particular objects. Professor Gary Lupan and Daniel Swingley, writing for the Quarterly Journal of Experimental Psychology, carried out some experiments. They hoped to give the fact that next time you lose your keys, muttering “keys, keys, keys” can in fact help you find them.
Inspired by viewing people muttering to themselves as they try to find things like peanut butter in a supermarket, the researchers conducted two experiments to see if this actually worked. In the first, participants were shown 20 pictures of various objects and were asked to find a certain one, with some seeing a text label (标签) telling them what they were looking for. These participants were then asked to search for the object again while saying the word to themselves, with results showing that saying it aloud helped people find the object more quickly.
The second experiment saw participants performing a shopping task, where they were shown photographs of items (物品) commonly found on supermarket shelves. They were asked to find all examples of a particular item, so if they were asked for apples they had to find all the bags of apples, as quickly as possible. The researchers found that there was also an advantage in saying the name of the product aloud when they were searching for something familiar.
The University of Pennsylvania study shows that muttering can actually help people reach the target object—in other words, muttering to oneself helps to focus the mind on something. It works more effectively than seeing a written description. Repeating the word over and over again helps even more.
