Last Sunday I saw a worst storm in years .It came sudden and went on for over three hours .After lunch, I went into my room to have a rest .The air was hot, but all was quiet. Then a strong wind started to blow into my room .Pieces of paper on my desk flew high into the air and some flew out the open window .As I ran out to catch it, big drop of rain began to fall .When I come back into the house, it was raining more harder and harder .Then I heard a loud crashing sound from the back of the house .When I ran out to find out that had happened, a big tree had fallen down and broke the top of the backroom .

Ask 9-year-old Annie what the worst thing was that ever happened in her house last year, and she won’t tell you that it was her parents divorcing, although they did. No, what Annie remembers most are the horrible fights leading up to the announcement about the divorce which was, as it turned out, and despite her parents anxiety about telling her, “not that big of a deal.” “I already knew they were not getting along well,” Annie says, “Every night after I went to bed, l would hear my parents fighting.” It made me really unhappy. When they finally decided to get a divorce, all of that stopped.
Annie's experience is more common than you might think, and there is a great deal of evidence to suggest that “staying together for the sake of the children” is not all it's cracked up to be, and may do more harm than good. According to psychologist Lynn Martingdale, hearing their parents argue is often more stressful for children than separation and divorce, and if you think that your children don’t know that there's trouble in family, then you're kidding yourself. The home life of children whose parents have an unhappy marriage is often far from ideal, and what's worse, parents will compound the problem by taking their unhappiness out on the children.
The Center for Moving Forward conducted a study in 2014 in which they followed 25families whose parents had been in marriage counseling. After tracking these families for 5 years, they found that the children of the parents who had eventually gotten divorced were not worse off than the children of those who had remained together, and in some cases had fared better. The study took into consideration, social and the children's general sense of well-being.
1.Why was Annie really unhappy according to paragraph 1?
A.Her parents fought every night. B.Her parents finally got divorced.
C.Her parents decided to abandon her. D.Her parents got along badly with her.
2.Which statement may psychologist Lynn Martingdale agree with?
A.Separation and divorce will hurt the children most.
B.Keeping an unhappy marriage hurts children more.
C.Children can't understand their parents' marriage well.
D.Children can’t feel the unhappiness from their parents.
3.What's the function of the last paragraph in the passage?
A.To give an example of divorce.
B.To support Annie's correct answer.
C.To further clear the author's view point.
D.To highlight the importance of the study.
4.What is the best title for the passage?
A.Divorce Is Good for Children B.Divorce Is Not the Worst Thing
C.Fighting Is Often Stressful D.Staying Together Is for Children Only

Jazz guitarist Joel Harrison came of age in 1960s and 70s' Washington, but he never saw it as a place to build a career as an adventurous, progressive musician. Everywhere he's gone, however, he's taken the sounds of the city with him.
''Growing up in that area allowed me access to a lot of different kinds of music,'' says Harrison, 61, who's now based in New York after living in Boston and San Francisco. ''Southern music traditions-old-time music, bluegrass, country as well as jazz and R&B.''
All of those appear to some degree in Free Country, a project Harrison began in 2003 as a means of filtering (渗透) country and bluegrass compositions through a up-to-date jazz sound and sensibility. On his new album, ''Angel Band: Free Country Vol.3, ''Harrison, on guitar and vocals (演唱), and his band take on many traditional bluegrass songs. Each cut is really kind of its own, distinct sound world. Since Harrison released the first two Free Country albums, he has produced 14 other albums. The Free Country releases, though, have been his most successful, and established his reputation.
In particular, Harrison drew inspiration from Danny Gatton, a D.C. guitar hero who similarly combines the local musical currents. Harrison was a self-described adorer of Gatton, going to attend his countless performances.
Harrison is also a composer. His work, rooted in progressive Jazz but exploring multiple types, is often through-composed and highly complex. He received a Guggenheim scholarship in2010 to compose and record an, eight-movement piece. The tunes he plays with Free Country are simpler, based on conventions of folk and pop music — which, for Harrison, is a large part of their appeal.
The music that he's covering timeless, and he aims to find endless currency in its timeless simplicity by maintaining me soul of the compositions and also adding a modern context and a modem language to it.
1.What exposed Harrison to various music?
A.His growth environment.
B.His current place of residence.

It was a Sunday and the heavy storm had lasted all night. The morning after the storm, though, was beautiful: blue skies, warm air and a calm, inviting sea touching the shore gently.
My father realized it was a good day for fishing and invited my sister and me to go with him. I was only 14 and fishing had never been my thing, but I decided to go all the same. I' m so glad I did.
On the way to the harbor we could see the terrible destruction on the coast, but the harbour itself was in fairly good shape. After all, it was protected by the arms of a bay that had only one tiny channel to the sea. As we got on board, we noticed two big humps(脊背) in the distance.
On approaching them, we saw it was a mother whale with her baby. We couldn't believe it — there weren't any whales along the coast here. The storm must have driven them across the ocean into the bay, in which the still water was so badly polluted that nothing could survive.
The little baby whale—actually as big as our boat—was obviously stuck and could not move. The mother dived under the water and came up suddenly, making big whirlpools(漩涡) and waves. "She's trying to help her baby, but on the wrong side," my father said. At this point, my father moved our boat in a semicircle to the other side and, heading the boat towards the baby whale, pushed it gently. With our several gentle pushes the big hump turned over and disappeared under water. Then it swam up right beside its mum. They struggled in their desperate attempts to escape but missed the exit and started heading in the wrong direction. We hurried up to the whales and tried to lead them towards the bay channel. Slowly, they let us lead them, sometimes rising from the water right beside us to breathe—and to give us a trusting look with those huge eyes. Once they hit their first part of clean water flowing straight from the sea, the mum gave us a wave with her tail and off. They swam into the distance.
In the excitement it had felt like only a few minutes, but we had been with those wonderful animals for almost an hour and a half. That was the simple and lasting beauty of the day. Nearly four decades later, I still look back fondly to that golden day at sea.
1. In Para2 the author says "I' m so glad I did." because _________.
A. he witnessed the whole process of fishing
B. he enjoyed the beauty of the calm sea
C. he experienced the rescue of the whales
D. he spent the weekend with his family
2.The mother whale failed to help her baby because __________.
A. she had stayed in the polluted water for too long
B. the whirlpools she had made were not big enough
C. she had no other whales around to turn to for help
D. the waves pushed her baby in the wrong direction
3.What is the theme of the story?
A. Saving lives brings people a sense of happiness.
B. Fishing provides excitement for children.
C. It's necessary to live in harmony with animals.
D. It's vital to protect the whale in the ocean.

Last year, three experienced storm chasers were killed in a tornado(龙卷风)in the US,but despite this the number of people going in search of tornadoes is growing. What drives them to take risks and look for danger? The man at the wheel glanced in the back-view mirror and then slowly turned around.“Don’t put this in your program.”he said. His wife in the passenger seat laughed. He lowered the window and killed the engine. The wind rushed in from surrounding wheat fields.
Then, from behind, the sound of footsteps approached on the dirt road.It was a moment of peace after hours of speedy racing through the American grassland. There had been excited shouts about where a tornado might form and how we would be there if it did.We were crazy on the trail a moment ago.But now, everyone was very coo1.A Kansas state trooper(骑警) introduced himself through the window. There was pretended surprise when he said how fast we had been going.Really? Wow,sorry.
Val Cator handed over his ariver’s license. His wife,Amy,took the registration out of the glove box.Val explained they were storm chasers with Channel 9 News out of Oklahoma City—though it was hardly necessary.Their huge black truck has lightning bolts(闪电)and Storm Tracker 9 painted on the sides.
Val pointed to the radar on the laptop open next to him and said those red and green dots suggested a tornado could form this afternoon. The state trooper was untouched.“I've got that in my car too.”he said.People here keep a close eye on the weather. It’s part of living in the tornado alley.Every year some town or other is blown off the map by tornadoes that can reach 300 miles an hour.
Val and Amy are just two of hundreds of possibly thousands of trackers who speed around with computers and cameras hoping to catch one of these beautiful, deadly storms.I'd joined them to learn why the number of trackers keeps growing. Why are people taking real risks—beyond the steady diet of rest-stop junk food—to watch weather?
Last year,a tornado killed three of the most experienced storm chasers. It picked up and threw their car as easily as you would a piece of paper.Dozens of other chasers were hurt in the same storm. They were crowded on a few roads when the tornado suddenly expanded and ate them.Val and Amy were there that day but still,in their words, chase aggressively.
1.Why did everyone calm down after being crazy?
A. Because they reached grassland.
B. Because a tornado would come.
C. Because a trooper stopped their car.
D. Because they were cool on the trail.
2.What could show Val Cator’s profession?
A. His driver’s license.
B. The glove box.
C. The signs painted on his truck’s sides.
D. The news of Oklahoma City.
3.Which word can be used to describe Val and Amy?
A. Hard-working. B. Adventurous.
C. Generous. D. Humorous.
4.The passage is mainly about______.
A. a program about storm chasers
B. the possible dangers that storm chasers face
C. the most violent tornado in the US
D. some people who want to be close to tornadoes
