There is a growing number of kidults---or adults who wear the mask of maturity but prefer to pander(迎合) to their inner child.
They feel ill equipped for parenthood, because they don’t see what values or lessons they could honestly pass on to their young, besides self-centeredness and a passion for the good things in life. They are trying to live by not acting their age.
As Ms Jane put it in her letter: I’m married, in my late 20s and enjoy a lifestyle other married graduate couples enjoy: winning and dining, tasteful clothes, travel and a career. Why give up all these for a baby?
It is reported that when asked whether they were adults, most people in their 20s answered they were not sure. This reflected a global economy in which people chased more papers to get better jobs that would comfortably support middle class living.
Being a kidult is not all about being selfish, though. With the untold uncertainties of war, fluctuating(波动)markets, disease and terrorism, many see this world as a poor place to live in—let alone bring kids up in. This seems especially so in urban living. All anyone wants after a long, hard day at work is some peace and quiet.
My classmate, Jenny, mused(沉思)recently how our friends living in small Malaysian towns were onto their second or third kids. Maybe they just loved having children around. Or maybe, in their own way, they wanted to leave the world a better place than they found it.
That’s how you, I and everyone know we have the chance to breathe air, touch grass and see sky. I think out parents understand that just being alive is an experience worth passing on.
1.What is a kidult in the writer’s opinion?
A. A person who doesn’t have a child
B. An adult who actually has a psychology of a child
C. A child who doesn’t want to grow up
D. A person who doesn’t know that what values he has
2.What does the underlined word “paper” in Para. 4 mean?
A. money
B. reputation
C.qualification
D. power
3.The author explains the kidult phenomenon by ________.
A. presenting research findings
B. making comparison
C. showing her own experience
D. using examples
4.We can learn from the text that kidults________.
A. know little what they can pass on to their children
B. are sure of their abilities for good life
C. living in urban can enjoy more peace
D. living in small towns know well what they’re living for

Mask-Wearing, Common in Asia, Spreads in the West
PARIS — Until a few weeks ago, Asian tourists were 1. only mask wearers in Paris, 2.(cause) puzzlement or suspicion from French locals or even hostility as the coronavirus began sweeping across Europe.
Four days into a national lockdown to stem the outbreak, the French government spokeswoman, Sibeth Ndiaye, warned that face masks were so 3. (familiar) that wearing them was too difficult technically and could even be “counterproductive (适得其反).” Even Thursday morning, when 4. (ask) whether she wore a mask or made her children wear one, she said, “Oh, no, not at all.”
This taboo is falling fast, not only in France but across Western countries, after increasing 5.(cry) from experts who say the practice is effective in curbing the coronavirus pandemic.
The shift for Western nations is profound and has had to overcome not merely the logistical challenges of securing enough masks, which are significant enough, but also a deep 6. (culture) resistance and even stigma (污名) associated with mask-wearing, 7. some Western leaders described flatly as “alien.”
8. (seem), it won’t be for much longer. After discouraging people from wearing face masks, France, like the United States, has begun urging its citizens 9. (wear) basic or homemade ones outside. And some parts of Europe are moving faster than the United States by requiring masks instead 10. simply recommending their use.

A school in North Carolina has banned skinny jeans and other excessively (过度地) tight-fitting trousers unless worn with a top or dress that must cover the bottom in its entirety. The school board introduced the ban because it says some girls were bullied (欺凌) when wearing tight-fitting trousers. Some parents think the ban is ridiculous and that more time should be spent on monitoring student behavior instead of banning clothing choices.
As a former teacher and a current parent of two girls, I have my opinion on the issue. Non-educators often seem to think “monitoring student behavior” is something as easy as putting on a pair of shoes, and that if teachers “just did their jobs better,” 99-100% of student discipline issues would never happen. The truth is that teachers can’t possibly monitor and control every single moment of a student’s life during the school day.
This is where my view as a parent of girls comes in. Girls of middle-high school age are dealing with their own bodily development, what TV and movies tell them a girl should dress and look like “to be pretty”, and what other girls at their age say they should look like and wear “to be pretty.” This means there isn’t a flawless outfit (套装) that some other girl won’t find “something wrong with” and then make fun of. Assuming we’re talking about girls in public schools, what they wear should be comfortable but also follow common sense. Wearing something that’s too tight probably isn’t that comfortable, but if it is, having some way to cover up certain areas accented (突出) by the tight clothing is a good idea.
Modern fashions might disagree, but psychology tells us tight clothes only cause a distraction.
School isn’t a fashion show. It’s a place of learning with some social interaction, and for those things to happen and also succeed, everyone needs to work together.
1.Why are some parents against the school ban?
A.It is not the proper time to introduce it. B.It will influence student behavior.
C.It is none of the school’s business. D.It will put girls at a disadvantage.
2.Which of the following about “monitoring student behavior” would the author agree with?
A.It is unfair to students. B.It’s a difficult job for teachers.
C.It can solve most student discipline issues. D.Teachers shouldn’t devote much time to it.
3.What does the underline word “flawless” in Paragraph 3 probably mean?
A.tight B.perfect
C.casual D.comfortable
4.What should be the principle of dressing for school girls in the author’s opinion?
A.Modesty. B.Fashion.
C.Neatness. D.Prettiness.
5.What does the passage mainly talk about?
A.How to monitor students’ behavior?
B.How to prevent campus bullying?
C.Should parents require their children what to wear?
D.Should “skinny jeans” be banned in school?
