Photography has been my interest ever since I was old enough to pick up a camera, but today I want to share with you the 15 most treasured photos of mine, and I didn’t take any of them. There were no art directors, no stylists, no chance for reshoots, not even any regard for lighting. In fact, most of them were taken by random tourists.
My story begins when I was in New York City for a speech, and my wife took a picture of me holding my daughter on her first birthday. We’re on the corner of the 57th and 5th avenue. We happened to be back in New York exactly a year later, so we decided to take the same picture.
Well you can see where this is going. Approaching my daughter’s third birthday, my wife said, “Hey, why don’t you take Sabina back to New York and make it a father-daughter trip, and continue the ceremony?” This is when we started asking passing tourists to take the picture.
So these photos are far more than representatives for a single moment, or even a specific trip. They’re also ways for us to freeze time for one week in October and reflect on our times and how we change from year to year, and nor just physically, but in every way. Because while we take the same photo, our viewpoints change, and she reaches new milestones and I get to see life through her eyes, and how she communicates with and sees everything. This very focused time we get to spend together is something we value and expect the entire year.
1.What can we know about the author from the first paragraph?
A. He is fond of being photographed alone.

B. the 15 photos are meaningful to the author’s family
C. it takes the author a whole week to have a family photo taken
D. the viewpoints of the author’s family never change with the time.

Ever since Donald Trump was elected the president of the US, the entire Trump family has been put under a microscope. In China, the spotlight has been mainly focused on Trump and his daughter Ivanka. She is described on WeChat as an extremely influential role model with stunning beauty, a successful career, and a happy family. She leads a dream life that a million girls would kill for. Yes, she was born with a silver spoon in her mouth. But she got where she is by herself.
There are always articles that say people born into wealthy families are better looking and have a better family background than you, but these people do work harder than you. Are you a loser if you were raised in an ordinary family? Should you feel guilty that you sleep eight hours a day because Ivanka sleeps five?
If you just want to keep a stable nine-to-five job, does it mean you are not ambitious? How about if you don’t work out or eat healthy, does that mean you will not find your Mr. or Miss Right? There is a tendency in media nowadays to encourage elitism. They are trying to brainwash young people into thinking that they should invest a huge amount of time and money in bodybuilding and appearance enhancement so as to improve the quality of their life and join the elites. But what’s the disadvantage of being of average quality? Do you really need to go to the gym five days a week unless you are a gym maniac (狂人)? Do you really need to break your neck and sacrifice to earn your first pot of gold only to worry constantly about how to be accepted into high society later?
Don’t let the idea of elitism get to you. Everybody has a right to live the life they want. Human beings should not be judged as a success or failure based on whether they are a part of the elite or not. As long as you lead a happy and comfortable life, why bother to chase after other people’s shadows? Choose your own life path and go for it.

Art has always been a vital part of my life. When I was o ld enough to appreciate genuine fine art , my parents started bringing me to museums that housed works of the greatest artists in the world.
When my art teacher asked us to do a Cubist(立体派的)drawing, my first thought was that she was just joking. I didn't like Cubism. I thought to do so means making fun ofthe true artists I admired. Unwillingly, I began to find out items for my drawing, I carelessly drew the objects all from different view points. The pictures all looked like a mess of lines and shapes anyway, but I was more concerned with how many more minutes were in the period because I was hungry. Yet, the other part of me was growing quieter. I began to take my task seriously and darken specific lines. I stared at my drawing and determined which ones needed to be emphasized. I was soon shading certain shapes black and they brought out important figures. It must be absolutely perfect.
When I showed her my finished drawing, my teacher looked at me with her huge smile and simply stated, "You are a Cubist. " At that moment the world stopped moving. My cubist drawing was the best piece of art I had ever created, not because I had spent the most time on it but because I had felt it. I thought of how I produced it. Once I felt frustrated, trying to perfect my black lines. Another time I was delighted in breathing life into the drawing by adding color. All of these emotions showed themselves in my work, giving it life that none of my previous works had had. Cubism set me free, showing everything I knew, everything I was, and everything I wished I could be. I had found the missing link, and the world began to move again.

It has been two years since I published my first article on Yahoo!Contributor Network.I was very excited when I saw that what I had written was published on the Internet.
I recognized that the content sites such as Associated Content can provide a fertile ground for learning how to become a writer.I was thrifty(节俭的)—I could see that this was an open door for systematically(系统地)learning some basic writing skills without paying college tuition for classes, all to be finished at my own speed and without leaving the comfort of my own home.

高三英语阅读理解中等难度题查看答案及解析
Ever since the invention of the printing press over 500 years ago, mass communication has been growing and affecting the way communities and people behave. Where once the written word was used by those with power to keep control of populations, now everyone believes that they have power over governments because of the huge amount of knowledge available to them thanks to electronic communication. At every stage of the development of communication, from the telegraph through to the Internet, societies have had to adapt to its effects. But have the effects been more positive or negative?
The saying “knowledge is power” has been an excellent motivator for people to improve their lives, but today the massive amount of information available through the Internet doesn’t always seem to be helping people in the way we’d hoped. Rather than improving people’s lives and bringing us closer together, the information age is making us more divided and irresponsible.
Nevertheless, many people find comfort in their virtual (虚拟的) worlds and are happy to connect with real-life friends and online friends from the familiar surroundings of their living rooms. However, being able to reinvent themselves online and be whoever they want to be leads to the question of whether they are losing their identities by living in a virtual world.
It’s not all bad news, however. Mass communication has helped change some attitudes for the better. Take our views on the environment for example. Internet campaigns by governments and other organizations have helped popularize the ideas of recycling, protecting wildlife and reducing pollution.
Modern electronic communication now influences every aspect of our lives — it is a powerful tool that has raised some concerns for society. However, it has also brought countless benefits to society. At the end of the day, it can be used both for good or evil and ultimately relies on the morals and sense of responsibility of the individual or community involved. In short, it needs to be used with care.
1.What does the writer imply about life before the printing press?
A. Population levels were lower.
B. The general public had little power.
C. People wanted to have more control over their lives.
D. Countries were governed by poorly educated people.
2.The writer states that the saying “knowledge is power” has ________.
A. encouraged people to get an education
B. sometimes failed to have the expected results
C. motivated people to access as much information as possible
D. been the driving force behind the development of mass media
3.What does the writer think about socialising online?
A. It can be comforting for some people.
B. Virtual lives can stop people enjoying a real life.
C. People have too many friends online to be of any value.
D. Crime is a problem for people on social networking sites.
4.Which statement best summarises the writer’s overall view of electronic communication?
A. It should be used wisely.
B. It changes attitudes much too quickly.
C. It is more powerful than many people believe.
D. It should be better controlled by the government.
