A trip to the library can change your life. That is the idea of the Get It Loud in Libraries project, which challenges the habit of speaking in a low voice. The sweet tones of singer Diana Vickers rang out recently, surrounded by books as well as fans,at Lancaster Library.Plan B,Adele,Florence and the Machine,Speech Debelle, and the Thrills have also performed for the project.
This fiveyear project aims to increase access(进入) to libraries while developing youth talent and has attracted more than 8,500 visitors,5,000 of whom are firsttime library users.
“I think it’s wonderful,”Vickers says.“I’ve been playing in front of big crowds and I’m excited about close environments where you can be close to your fans.”
As a child growing up in nearby Blackburn, she says that her school library was a “second home”to her. When she was young she loved PeterRabbit and Mr.Men books, and later her favorites included LittleWomen and TheLovelyBones.
Attracted by the stage, the young who would once never have been to a library have been returning to borrow books and CDs.The project’s founder,Stewart Parsons, has worked in libraries for 25 years. He feels that the concerts have made libraries something that the young want to be part of.A mother,Lauren Zawadzki, sent him a text message after a concert:“Your work is great!!!Both Izaak and Dom have been reading in the library for the last half hour...You should be proud. They would never have suggested that before the concerts.”
Parsons hopes that the activity is changing the way people view libraries.“My big worry is that libraries trail(拖拉)behind slightly;they shouldn’t.This is about bringing libraries up to date. The beautiful thing is that people are reconnecting with the library in a way they haven’t done before.”

“Could your weekend lie-in(睡懒觉) kill you?, asked the Daily Mail. It is said in a study that sleeping more at weekends can increase the risk of heart disease. Since most of us change our sleep schedule depending on whether it’s a work or non-work day, it’s an interesting question. Is the lie in really so dangerous? Researchers say that changing sleep pattern cause social jet lag. Is that even a thing?
Changing our sleeping hours causes the effect of crossing a time zone-it makes us sleepy the day. People who changed their sleep patterns were also more likely to gain weight during the study and more suited to going to bed and waking late because of the change of their biological clock. They were more at risk of these changes than earlier sleepers and risers. The study also shows an association switching sleep patterns and changes in some blood results. It does not show that anyone’s developing heart disease was because they had lie-ins.
Jim Horne, one of the professors of the Sleep Research Center, says the concept of social jet lag is likely to feed our anxiety about sleep, so we should really stop worrying so much and have a limited weekend lie-in. Worry is bad for sleep and we naturally compensate for not getting enough rest in the week by lying-in at weekends, so we shouldn’t stop doing it. However, we should limit the time.
Studies show that if you accumulate a five-hour sleep debt during the week, then you only need one and a half hours of extra sleep on your days off to make up for it. It would be a shame to be scared of lie-in. Studies of sleep and risk factors for heart disease can struggle to tell between poor sleep causing stress and stress disrupting sleep. Sleep is the test for the state of one’s health, and the most important thing that happens when you don’t get enough of it is that you feel sleepy.
1.What’s the consequence of switching sleep patterns?
A.You’ll feel more energetic.
B.Some blood results will change adversely.
C.You will become earlier sleepers and risker.
D.The chance of putting on weight will enhance.
2.What does the underline phrase “doing it” refer to?
A.Lying-in. B.Worrying.
C.Limited Sleeping. D.Compensating for the limit.
3.What is Horne’s attitude to the weekend lie-in?
A.Negative. B.Doubtful.
C.Ambiguous. D.Supportive.
4.What can we infer from the text?
A.The sleep debt should be paid off completely.
B.The weekend lie-in is more healthy than harmful.
C.Social jet lag occurs when you don’t get enough sleep.
D.Poor sleep may result from and cause stress in turn.

In the United States,a company is working on a project that could change the way we think about public transportation. Its planned system would move people around in steel tubes. Those passengers would be traveling at speeds of up to 1,200 kilometers per hour.
The futuristic steel tube transportation system is called Hyper1oop.Workers plan to test the system next year in a specially built community called Quay Valley. The town will be powered entirely by energy from the sun.
The Hyperloop transport system is the idea of businessman Elon Musk.Dirk Ahlborn is head of Hyperloop Transportation Technologies. He says his company has taken Mr.Musk’s idea and is developing a system that will be safe, environmentally friendly and fast.
“It’s 100 percent solar powered…we’re not going to get up to 760 miles per hour, but we believe we can actually break the records that are existing right now.”
This means that a four-hour drive from Los Angeles,California to Las Vegas,Nevada, could someday take only 30 minutes by Hyperloop. The system involves a series of capsules that float inside a long tube. These containers would not need to travel along a pathway or track. The system has been designed to operate above or below ground.
“Inside the tube you create a low pressure environment very similar to an airplane that’s at high altitudes. So now the capsule travelling inside the tube doesn’t come up against as much resistance, and therefore can travel really fast with very little energy.”
Dick Ahlborn and his company will use an eight—kilometer track in Quay Valley to find the best way to set up passenger traffic and repair capsules.A larger system will cost an estimated six to $10 billion to build. If Mr.Ahlborn and his company succeed,we may one day see these very fast Hyperloop capsules speeding through tubes around the world.
1.Which of the following is true of Hyperloop?
A. It will travel along a pathway or track.
B. It will use more energy than current trains.
C. There is a high pressure inside the tube of it.
D. A series of experiments on it will be carried on.
2.We may learn from the text that
A. Dirk is worried about the speed of Hyperloop
B. Hyperloop has been built in the United States
C. Hyperloop will be powered by energy from the sun
D. Hyperloop has reached to 760 miles per hour
3.What does the underlined word“containers”in Paragraph 5 refer to?
A. Systems. B. Capsules. C. Tubes. D. Airplanes.
4.What is the best title for the text?
A. Hyperloop Is Closer To Reality B. Hyperloop Will Test At Quay Valley
C. Elon Musk’s Idea Is Under Discussion D. Hyperloop Travels Around The World
