Anna Heusler and a group of cyclists were riding towards Adelaide on Friday when they spotted a koala sitting in the middle of the road. It wasn’t the first time that Heusler had seen koalas out and about on the roads while riding—but this koala’s reaction amazed her. ''We stopped the bikes to help the koala get off the road, otherwise it would get hit by cars. But the koala walked up to me very quickly. It was obviously very thirsty, '' Heusler told CNN.
''As I was giving it a drink from our water bottles, it climbed up onto my bike. I've never seen a koala move so quickly. They're usually not pet animals, they stay up in the trees and people admire them from afar. ''
''None of us have ever seen anything like it. We gave it as much as we could and then made sure it was off the road and back to safety. ''Heusler shared the adorable yet heartbreak-ing images to her blog, showing the koala drinking water from her bottle. ''Australian Koala Bears suffered severe thirst in a heatwave. This koala walked right up to me as I was going down and climbed up onto my bike while I gave it water, '' she captioned the image. The video has since gone viral online, ranking top of millions of views on social media around the world. ''There's nothing but tragedy in Australia. It's burning out of control'' Heusler said. ''I hope this incident helps spread awareness. ''
Severe fires in the Adelaide Hills have burned 25,000 hectares of land, leaving koalas searching for food and water hard. Adelaide Koala Rescue's Jane Brister is currently caring for 46 koalas that have had their homes destroyed. She said the centre doesn’t normally care for this many koalas at once and the increase was due to the fires. ''A big problem we’ re noticing now is that koalas are coming in starving… there's just no food, '' Ms Brister said. Koalas eat eucalyptus (桉树)leaves—but thousands of trees have been destroyed by fires. Firefighters now across the country are taking time to care for wildlife when they find them before handing them to the correct authorities.

A.It approached her for the water.
B.It arried its baby to beg for her help.

Some of Australian cyclists have used "GPS art" to turn a 202 km (125- mile) ride into the outline(轮廓)of a goat, which interests many people greatly.
The four men marked their route on an app before using it track their journey around Perth. When uploaded to the computer, it was shown as a picture. Cyclist Ben Jones said the group settled on a goat because it was an easy animal to draw. He said the ride lasted more than six hours, with the four men stopping only for food, and flat tyres . "Except for riding 202km,' it's relatively simple," Mr. Jones told the BBC. "You mainly mark your route on the app and it plans directions out."
GPS art has also been widely used by runners and other cyclists when they travel out. Mr. Jones said his group wanted to shake up their normal weekend ride. "We all ride l0,000km to 15,000km a year," he said. "Mostly we just ride together as mates and have a good time - that's what this was about."
The group received much attention after posting their map to social media this week. Others described Mr. Jones as a goat guy in an interview on Australian television. For their next piece of GPS art, the group plans to draw a local animal such as the koala. "Certainly, there'll be something coming, for we are making our decisions to put more and more plans into practice. I'm sure of that," Mr. Jones said.

Kyle Cassidy and three other members of the Annenberg Running Group were stretching on the grounds of the University of Pennsylvania, waiting for a few latecomers. The Penn colleagues and other community members meet three days a week for a roughly 30-minute jog and an occasional lecture. That's right― during some runs, one of them delivers a talk. Topics range from the brain to Bitcoin.
But on this day last January, it would not be their normal run. The first clue that something was off was the man who sprinted past them. "Running at an amazing pace," Cassidy told Runner's World admiringly. Cassidy discovered why the sprinter was so fleet of foot when another man ran by, yelling, “Help! He took my phone and laptop!"
At that, the group did what running clubs do: They ran, trailing the suspect down the streets of Philadelphia until he ducked into a construction site. The runners split up. Cassidy ran around to the far side of the site to cut the thief off while the others wandered the neighborhood hoping he had dumped the loot (赃物)in a backyard.
No luck. So they decided to ask residents whether they'd seen the guy. When they knocked on the door of one row house, they were in for a surprise. Unknown to them, he had already emerged from the construction site—and was hiding behind a bush by that very house. As the owner opened the door, the suspect darted out from behind the bush ... and right into the arms of campus police, who'd joined the chase shortly behind the runners.
The members of this running group are not hard-core athletes. But they do understand the benefit of a little exercise. ''Running is typically a useless sport where you turn fat cells into heat," Cassidy told The Philadelphia Inquirer. "But occasionally it can be useful, and here was one of those opportunities."
1.Why do the group members gather together?
A.To do some stretching. B.To have a regular run.
C.To deliver a lecture. D.To cover some topics.
2.What does the underlined word "sprinted" in Paragraph 2 probably mean?
A.Dashed. B.Pushed.
C.Jumped. D.Escaped.
3.We can infer that the success of the chase is mainly due to____ .
A.the assistance of the runners B.the owner of the row house
C.the campus police on patrol D.the joint efforts of the people
4.Which of the following best describes Cassidy?
A.Athletic and generous. B.Courageous and ambitious.
C.Helpful and humorous. D.Thoughtful and demanding.

A group of graduates, well established in their careers, were talking at a reunion and decided to visit their old university professor, now retired. During their visit, the conversation turned to complaints about stress in their work and lives.
Offering his guests hot chocolate, the professor went into the kitchen and returned with a large pot of hot chocolate and other things including cups-porcelain(瓷杯子), glass, crystal, some plain looking, some expensive, some elegant -- telling them to help themselves to the hot chocolate.
When they all had a cup of hot chocolate in hand, the professor said: "I notice that all the nice looking and expensive cups were taken, leaving behind the plain and cheap ones. While it is normal for you to want only the best for yourselves, that is the source of your problems and stress. The cup that you're drinking from adds nothing to the quality of the hot chocolate. In most cases it is just more expensive and in some cases even hides what we drink. What all of you really wanted was hot chocolate, not the cup; but you consciously went for the best cups... And then you began eyeing each others cups. Now consider this: Life is the hot chocolate; your job, money and position in society are the cups. They are just tools to hold and contain life. The cup you have does not define, nor change the quality of life you have. Sometimes, by concentrating only on the cup, we fail to enjoy the hot chocolate we have. The happiest people don't have the best of everything. They just make the best of everything that they have. Live simply. Love generously. Care deeply. Speak kindly. Thank the Lord for your blessings in 2011. And enjoy your hot chocolate in 2012!”

3.What caused the professor to say those words?
A.Their graduation. | B.Their reunion. | C.Their visit. | D.Their complaints. |
4.What does the word “cup” in this passage refer to?
A.Life | B.happy things in life |
C.hot chocolate | D.tools to hold and contain life |
5.What is the purpose of the professor’s words?

B.To educate them that the happiest people don't have the best of everything. |

Recently I and other Red Cross volunteers met a group of victims from Hurricane Katrina. We were there, as mental health professionals, to offer “psychological first aid” and I was struck by the simple healing power of presence. As we walked in the gate to the shelter, we were greeted with a burst of gratitude (感激) from the first person we met. I felt appreciated, but also guilty, because I hadn’t really done anything yet.
I first realized the power of presence many years ago when a friend’s mother passed away unexpectedly. I had received a call saying she had just passed away. I wanted to rush down there immediately, but didn’t want to intrude (打扰) on this very personal period of sadness. I was torn about what to do. Another friend with me then said, “Just go. Just be there.” I did, and I will never regret it.
Since then, I have not hesitated to be in the presence of others. Once I sat at the bedside of a young man suffering from the pain of his AIDS — related dying. He was not awake, and obviously unaware of others’ presence. However, the atmosphere was by no means solemn. His family, playing guitars and singing, allowed him to be present with them as though he were still fully alive.
In my life, I am repeatedly struck by the healing power of presence. In it, none of us are truly alone. It is not only something we give to others but also changes me for the better.

A. He built shelters for them.
