British society is considered to be divided into three main groups of classes-the upper class, the middle class.and the lower or working class. This is known as the class system and it is important to know something about it if you mean to understand British people and society. Most British people grow up with a deep knowledge and understanding of the class system even if they are not very conscious(意识到的)of it.As a result, more people know which class they belong to and are able to tell which class other people come from by the way they speak, the kind of clothes they wear, their interests and hobbies or even the type of food they eat.
Social class is not only about behavior and attitudes. For example, although many upper class people are rich and may own a lot of land, having a lot of money does not necessarily make a person one member of the upper class. It is also important to come from a particular kind of family, have friends who are considered suitable, have been to a certain type of private school and speak with the right kind of accent. There are people who are poor but who do not think of themselves as working class because their family background, education, political opinions, etc.are basically different from those of most working-class people. Many people do not like the class system but it is impossible to pretend that these differences do not exist or that British people do not sometimes form opinions in this way.

A.exists only in the mind of foreigners B.is deeply rooted in the British people
C.is now under attack D.is regarded as a long custom

Belgium is divided into three communities. Each one has its own language and traditions. But the people of Belgium are untied in their love for Belgian potato fries. The fries are prepared and sold the same way in all area of the country.
The Reuters news service reports that potatoes reached Belgium in the 16th century. But it was not until the 19th century that restaurants and others began selling fried potatoes throughout the country as a separate meal.
Recently, a Belgian group launched a campaign aimed at getting the United Nations (UN) to recognize the popular treat. The group wants the UN’s Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization to place the food on its cultural heritage (遗产) list.
The UNESCO list recognizes more than 300 objects, beliefs and practices. They include Turkish coffee and the traditional Chinese theater known as Peking opera. The list also includes a dance, the Argentinian tango, and the singing of the Aka pygmies of the Central African Republic. UNESCO says the list is “made up of intangible heritage elements (非物质文化遗产元素) that help show the diversity of heritage and raise awareness about its importance”.
Belgian potato fries are traditionally sold in a paper wrapper,or cone, in a “fritkot” There are about 5,000 frikots in Belgium. That means they are 10 times more common as a percentage of the population as McDonald’s restaurants in the Untied States. The national organization of fritkot owners says the small, often unfurnished buildings are much like Belgium itself. It says these buildings combine the country’s acceptance of disorder with a dislike of structures that all look the same. Being considered a leader in our society is indeed of high praise. Leadership means power, commands respect and, most important, encourages achievement. Unlike vitamin C, leadership skills can't be easily swallowed down. They must be carefully cultivated.
Different from popular belief, most good leaders are made, not born. They learn their skills in their everyday lives. But which do they develop? How do they (and how can you) get others to follow?
Always give credit. Many leaders note that the most efficient way to get a good performance from others is to treat them like heroes. Giving public credit to someone who has earned it is the best leadership technique in the world. It is also an act of generosity (慷慨) that's never forgotten.
Giving credit is more effective than even the most constructive criticism (批评), which often hurts rather than helps. Kenneth Blanchard, the author of The One-Minute Manager, agrees. "Catch people doing something right!" he says. Then tell everyone about it.
Take informed risks. "The best leaders know that taking a risk is not a thoughtless exercise, "says management adviser Marilyn Machlowitz." Sky divers don't go up in an airplane without checking the parachutes (降落伞) beforehand."
Because the idea of risk also carries with it the possibility of failure, many of us usually wait for others to take charge. But if you want to be a leader, you must learn to fail - and not die a thousand deaths. Pick yourself up and start all over again.
Encourage enthusiasm. (热情) "When people understand the importance of work, they lend their mental strengths," says Lee Ducat. But when they get excited about the work, all their energy gets poured into the job. That's a great force ! Is this the best way to create excitement? Be enthusiastic yourself - You will be followed by everyone.
1.The underlined word "cultivated" (paragraph 1) roughly means _______.
A. encouraged
B. compared
C. examined
D. developed
2.The part Always give credit tells us that a leader should _______.

B. regard others as real heroes
C. praise people for their good performances
D. praise everyone
3.To be a good leader, you should _______.
A. not be afraid of any risks
B. think twice before taking risks
C. try to avoid any possible failures
D. know what a thoughtless exercise is
4.Which of the following can be the best title for the passage?
A. Leadership Is of Skills and Techniques
B. Leadership Is Very Important

D. How to Be a Leader

Criticism can be divided into two types. 1._____ This is the type of criticism that can be the most hurtful. Parents might express their disapproval of your choice in career, friends or lifestyle. People may criticize how you dress or the way you act. It can be terribly unpleasant to tolerate it.
The second type of criticism involves pointing out your weaknesses and mistakes. No one is perfect, yet many imperfect people seem to find it extremely easy to “let us know” when we mess up. 2. _____And the fact that they are telling us what we already know makes it much more annoying.
When people express their disapproval of some area of your life you first need to consider how you feel about it. You need to be secure in who you are and the decisions that you make.3.____
Remember that there is a difference between being firm in your choices and being stubborn. Don’t be stubborn. Be mature enough to truly hear what they are saying, even if you don’t agree with it at first. 4._____If not, just let it go and trust that they meant well, but what they were saying is not for you. Don’t be mad at them.
5._____ Improving yourself works best if you can see yourself from different angles. Other people have different views on what you are doing and can help you. If you are one of those people who just want to learn the hard way, try listening to some advice for a change. It might do you some good.
A.In many cases, we already know a lot of what people are saying to us.
B.You may come to realize that they have a good view of things and are right.
C.There is no need for you to care about others’ criticism.
D.The first type is when someone expresses their disapproval.
E.Bear in mind that you should never criticize others.
F.If your decisions are solid and you firmly believe in them, you won’t allow anyone to change your mind.
G.If someone is pointing out your mistakes, use it to your advantage.
