Student photographer Madeline Morales has had experiences most 15 year-olds have not. At the age of 15, she developed cancer and had to go through chemotherapy(化疗). But today will be a unique kind of experience—something most people will never have. “It makes me feel excited, a little bit nervous,” said Morales, whose photos were on display at a gallery show in Los Angeles. These images reflect her journey while battling cancer.
She tried to look at things with a lot of light, a lot of what draws her to positivity and something that means love or happiness. “I think photography has really helped me a lot to stay positive and be motivated to keep fighting this disease.”
Morales is one of 23 students sharing their experiences with cancer through photos at this gallery. They are graduates of the PABLOVE foundation’s SHUTTERBUGS advanced photography class. The foundation aims to improve the lives of children living with the disease through its photography program. It also provides money for underfunded cancer research. Incomes from sales of these prints will go toward cancer research programs.
The PABLOVE program offers classes in eight cities across the United States. “Being in these classes with other people who understand their experience has been really beneficial, and it has really made them feel a lot more comfortable in what they’ve been through,” said Ashley Blakeney, program manager of PABLOVE SHUTTERBUBS. She said the photography classes give students living with cancer a sense of community at a time when they often feel isolated in their experience.
With photography many young students gain an identity that is not controlled by cancer. “There’s more to us than just having cancer. We want people to see what we see even if it’s through the lens(镜头).” says Luckman who was diagnosed with cancer when he was 10 years old. “Photography has given me a small chance to actually assist in the world a bit. I’d love to express my story and allow it to hopefully reach other kids so they can understand how to deal with it hopefully.

高三英语单项填空简单题查看答案及解析
Have you ever frequently put off things you should do for various reasons? If so, it is procrastination (拖延). Procrastinators often put off doing things and leave them to the very last moment. 1.Lazy people simply don’t do anything and are just fine with it. Procrastinators, on the other hand, have the desire to do something but can’t force themselves to start.
You might think procrastination is a bit annoying but fairly harmless. However, long term procrastination has bad effects on your health. Not having seen the doctor when your illness was easier to treat may shorten your life. Just thinking about what you haven’t done may cause discomfort. 2.
Don’t place too much pressure on yourself. “This project has to impress everyone; I really can’t blow this opportunity,” 3. Overcome this mental block by simply allowing yourself to be imperfect with the next small task. You can always improve your work later.
4. Concentrating on the size and difficulty of a task will overcome you and promote procrastination. Any work can be broken into smaller steps. The trick is - with each step along the way — to focus on the next achievable tasks. Make sure you can easily imagine the outcome of your small task. Don’t write a book; write a page.
Focus on starting, rather than finishing. For someone who’s having a hard time starting a task, imagining a hard-to-grasp future can be depressing. The solution in this case, then, is to focus on starting. 5. We all know that if we start, we’ll eventually finish the task.
A.Break a long project down into short tasks.
B.So procrastination is about managing the time.
C.So we should apply ourselves to overcoming it.
D.However, procrastination is different from laziness.
E.Focus on the negative effects of the procrastination.
F.Bring your focus from the future to what can be done right now.
G.Placing such high hopes on a project only adds anxiety and fear of failure.

Everyone procrastinates. We put things off because we don’t want to do them, or because we have too many other things on our plates.Putting things off—big or small—is part of being human.
But procrastination does have consequences. When your procrastination leaves you feeling discouraged, it is time to take action, and one of the best ways to get rid of it is to make an un-schedule.
An un-schedule is a weekly calendar of all the ways in which your time is already accounted for.You consider not only your timed commitments such as classes and meetings, but also your untimed activities such as meals, exercise, time with friends, and the like.Once you have made your un-schedule, you may be able to see your time is often filled with more activities than you realize, for instance, that you really don’t have five hours to spend writing on the night before your paper is due.Procrastinators’ views of time tend to be unrealistic, and the un-schedule can help you outline a realistic plan.By planning accordingly, you will not only get a better night’s sleep, you may also end up with a better paper.
The un-schedule might also be a good way to get started on a larger project, such as a term paper or an honors paper. You may think that you have “all semester” to get the writing done, but if you really map out how much time you have available to write on a daily and weekly basis, you will see that you need to get started sooner, rather than later. In addition, the un-schedule may reveal especially busy weeks or months, which will help you budget time for long-term projects.
Perhaps most importantly, the un-schedule can help you examine how you spend your time. You may be surprised at how much time you spend watching television, and decide to make a change. It’s especially important that you build time for fun activities into your un-schedule.Otherwise, you will procrastinate in order to steal time for relaxation.
You can also use the un-schedule to record your progress towards your goal.Reward yourself for your small successes.Seeing what you’ve achieved will help reinforce(强化)the productive behavior, and you will feel more motivated in the following process.
As you explore ways to conquer procrastination, don’t expect overnight transformation. You developed the habit over a long time; you aren’t going to stop magically. But you can change the behavior, bit by bit.If you start to make an un-schedule now, you will eventually develop new habits.
1.From Paragraph 2, we can know that procrastinators __________.
A.usually have sleeping problems
B.tend to be unrealistic in daily life
C.spend more time in doing exercise
D.often fail to notice untimed activities
2.Which of the following statements best reflects an un-schedule?
A.“Now I have more time for fun.”
B.“I can start my big project later.”
C.“I’ll treat myself to a movie for my progress.”
D.“I’m going to have more time to finish my paper.”
3.According to the writer, people need to make an un-schedule because of their __________.
A.interests in doing things differently
B.determination to try out new things
C.inability to manage time properly
D.lack of concentration on a project
4.The author writes the passage to __________.
